Monday Severe Weather Alert Day

Featured Replies

Most of Kentucky will have the chance of seeing strong to severe storms on Monday. The morning showers and possible thunderstorms may limit the chance of destabilization but it looks like the afternoon is when we should be on the lookout.

The current thinking is that the strong to severe storms will intensify in the afternoon. Multicells and potentially some supercell severe storms could develop. The main threats look to be damaging winds, hail. Of course a tornado or two can't be ruled out.

I'm watching Monday closely and will update when information warrants.

Sunday afternoon update. The entire state of Kentucky is now in the slight risk area for possible strong to severe thunderstorms on Monday.

While we are looking at rain and possible thunderstorms early Monday morning, the clouds associated with the early morning rain should start to break around mid-day. This will allow heating of the atmosphere and make it more conducive for the formation of severe storms.

The main threats look to be damaging winds and hail. Also a tornado or two can't be ruled out. I'll update in the morning and may go into severe weather threat mode then.

My yard would LOVE a nice steady rain!!

As would my customers lawns. Its too early for everything without irrigation to be turning brown.

I'm going to go ahead and go into severe weather alert mode for today. The change that may occur is for later today. The SPC- Storm Prediction Center may increase the slight chance area to enhanced especially over Kentucky. This means we may have a greater chance of seeing more wide spread severe thunderstorms. If indeed they do that it means we could see the following:

More persistent and/or widespread, a few intense storms

a few tornadoes

several reports of wind damage

damaging hail 1-2" in diameter

It seems the best time for these possible strong to severe storms will be around 4 EDT to midnight.

I will try and do an update around midday. Sooner if I get new information.

Everyone should be weather aware today into tonight.

This map shows the 4 pm to 8 pm time period.

The sun is back out here in Louisville. Going to be a muggy one.

That's not good severe weather wise. Seems, so far, to be going the way the forecast said yesterday.

Here in Ashland we had a shower that lasted about 10 minutes but that's it so far. Hopefully the storms refire around 4pm like nWo forecasted, because as of right now everything is breaking up as it gets close to us. We desperately need rain here that's for sure. Ashland had less than 1" of rain in May.

I'm tempted to get the .308 out and see if I can't put some holes in the bubble.

Power went out at our office in Blue Ash around 11am, no clouds in site. Back on now. Looks nice outside.

Severe weather watch maybe issued soon for parts of eastern and southern Kentucky. Those along the Tennessee boarder should really pay attention to the weather in their area.

There are already severe thunderstorm warnings along the Kentucky/Tennessee boarder southwest of Bowling Green.

Major monsoon passed through Bardstown this afternoon. Had me singing Johnny Cash. "How high's the water mama? Three feet high and rising."
