“He’s very talented,” Jackson said of Burkhead, via the Cincinnati Enquirer. “You have a talented player on your team you see if you can find a way to get him involved. He can do a little bit of everything. He can run the ball, too. He can catch, protect. He’s one of the better players on our team so we will see what we can do with him.”

“When you’re coming out of the backfield you’re usually going against a linebacker and you’re usually going against straight-up man. Or it’s a simple zone you can read off of,” Burkhead said. “Now you’ve got cover-2, quarters, cloud coverages, and other things you have to learn about. And you’re running against nickel, dimes with corners and safeties. So it’s new, especially when I’m running some routes I’ve never run before.”

I would love to see Burkhead get more involved with the offense.

However, what this tells me, is playing time at WR (after AJ Green) is going to be one heck of a competition.

I Dont think it shows much at all. The top 4 wrs are basically written down with Green, Jones, Sanu, and Wright. Then you have to figure Alford will make it as a returner and then probably Moore will be the sixth receiver.

The only thing it shows is the Bengals have three talented running backs and they want to find away to be even more versatile with having a guy in who could run the ball or go out for passes. So it makes it more difficult for defenses to know exactly who to sub in.

For the life of me though what I don't understand is why aren't they making Bernard more of that hybrid between rb and wr. Hue loves Bernard as a rb but when you have a guy like Hill who may be a top 5 back in the league, then you make sure he is your main back and you find other ways to get a talented guy like Bernard touches.

Could this be part of the new extra point thought process? Marvin said teams will have to approach the thinking a little differently by spending more time on creating plays.

Or, if I take your side, it shows me once again Hue Jackson is a terrible psychologist.

Just for me I Dont believe the Bengals are worried about their wrs as long as they are healthy. Last year Green missed 4 games and missed parts of 7. Jones didn't play a single game after being a legit #2 wr the year before. Eifert who is receiving threat played 8 plays. James Wright then comes on but then gets hurt. However just the year before they were a top 10 passing offense when their guys were healthy and even Dalton threw 30 TDs with that bunch. So with those guys healthy the passing game should be fine as far as receiving threats go as long as Dalton can be consistent more than not.

With that said I Dont know why Hue won't use Bernard more as a wr. Then it took him half the year and a Bernard injury to realize Hill gives them more of a threat in the running game.

In fact I forget who it was on here maybe bengalmaniac but he may be Hue Jackson because whoever that poster was, was all for Bernard being the guy and not Hill just like Hue was lol. So Hue may be on here lol

^ So if the Bengals aren't worried why spout off about adding an undersized RB to the WR mix?

Because you also have two very talented running backs and lot easier to get him on the field at a wr position since you can have up to 4 wrs at a time.

Unless there are injuries this will be a mute point because I bet we see him line up at wr less than 5 times a game at max.

Plus this would allow them to only dress 5 wrs on game day. Since Burkhead is also a good special teams player he can dress on game days to be the third back but also another wr in case I injuries happen during the game. However as I just mentioned unless there are injuries we will rarely see him at wr IMO.

Either I take Hue at his word and Rex is going to see WR time meaning competition at that position is going to be tough and different than we thought or Hue is pumping up the Rex at the expense of our WR group.

I will say this though your boy Wilder is working at fullback some. So if he can learn that spot and prove his worth on special teams I really think the Bengals could decide to keep him over Peerman.
