6A district 2 has only three teams. Why?

Featured Replies

Why does 6A district 2 only have three schools when districts 3 and 4 have five apiece? PRP is located in the Southwestern part of Louisville and it would not be a stretch to include it. The maximum travel distance if you added PRP would be 50 mins (PRP to Central Hardin) which is not significantly different from the current longest trip (40 mins from Meade County to Central Hardin).

Is there some reason this was not done? I would think the KHSAA would prefer to have even districts whenever possible.

I think it was based more on geography than anything else. The KHSAA also has a bracketing plan for the postseason in 6A so it all works out. But it does look odd.

For postseason competition, in Class 6A, 5th place from District 1 as the 4th place in District 2 for playoff brackets; 5th place from 3 would become the 4th place in 5 for playoffs in odd numbered years; 5th place from 3 would become the 4th place in 6 for playoffs in even numbered years; 5th place from 4 would become the 4th place in 6 for playoffs in odd numbered years; 5th place from 4 would become the 4th place in 5 for playoffs in even numbered years.

If you think this is bad, you should take a look @ the districts in baseball. There are some districts in Louisville that have 2 teams, lol! Win or lose you go to Region, meanwhile other districts in the state have 2-3 top 10 teams that dont even make the region (Lexington Catholic for example ranked 4th in the state & not going to Region)

Sorry, I know this is a football thread. :(

Well only one, the St. X/Male district, and only because Brown and Collegiate do not field teams. But your point is taken.

The other teams didn't want to be in the same district with SK? Everyone is avoiding playing us now.

Just kidding.

District 2 is Central Hardin, Meade County and North Hardin

District 3 is Male, PRP, Butler, St. X and Manual

Not sure where SK enters into it.

I think he's referencing the fact that 6A Districts 5 (Conner, Cooper, Ryle) and 6 (Boone, Campbell, Simon Kenton) are also three-team districts.

THe answer to the main question of Why...................We do not have enough football playing schools in our state to configure a fully functional 6 class system.
