Will 2015 Go Down As One of The Strongest Years for Football in "Eastern" Kentucky?

Featured Replies

I cannot recall a year in which there is as much Team and Individual Prowess or expectations for the schools East of I-75 or in the WYMT "Mountain" Coverage Area.

The Teams:

Two Defending State Champions both return with loaded rosters...

Belfry- The Back to Back 3A Champs will certainly be a major player once more

Pulaski County- The Defending 5A Champs return a host of talent including Mr. Football Finalist Riley Hall

Along with that..

Johnson Central- The Eagles have a stacked roster and will benefit from the move to 4A where they are expected to open as either the #1 or #2 team in the State.

Shelby Valley- The Wildcats shocked the world making a push to the 2A Semi-Finals and return a lot of experience

Southwestern- Fresh off a watershed season the Warriors figure to once again be a major player with a ton of experience from a team who was possibly a key injury from making their own Title Push

Traditional namesakes like Ashland, Raceland, Bell County, Pikeville, Russell, Corbin, Knox Central, Prestonsburg, and Lawrence County all seem to be primed for Top 10 teams in their respective classes.

The Players:

This is where 2015 appears to really be unique..I cannot recall as stronger crop of individual talent from EKY in 20+ years.. for an area that produces maybe one FBS Lvel D-1 player every other year it is stacked with talent

RB Quinton Baker- Ashland Several FBS D-1 offers.. Mr. Football Contender

QB Riley Hall- Pulaski County.. D-1 Interest and Mr. Football Contender

QB/LB Kash Daniel- Paintsville. Several FBS D-1 offers and one of the hottest names on the recruiting circuit

OL Nathan Murray- Bell County. FCS and FBS D-1 Offers.

RB/ATH Dalton Frasure- Pburg. D-1 Interest, FCS Offers.

DL Blake Asher- Leslie County. D-1 Interest, FCS Offers

2017 K Tyler Pack- Johnson Central. D-1 Interest.

2017 DL Cole Bentley- Belfry. D-1 Interest.

2017 DL RayQuan Horton- Belfry. D-1 Interest.

Does Pulaski County count as 'Eastern KY'? They are west of I75 and the Daniel Boone National Forest. Same thing for Southwestern.

This is not meant to diminish your point, but am a bit confused why those would be listed as Eastern.

Come on @ATLCat learn to read a map. lol. Good Article, and I agree Eastern KY should do big things the next few years in HS football.

Specifically why I included the part about or in the WYMT "Mountain" Coverage Area.

I don't consider Pulaski Countya s EKY per se...but they are firmly covered by WYMT and part of their "Mountain Sports" (a whole new can of worms since Pulaski County isn't really very hilly but I digress).

I also think it's a positive for the state. Mountain football has it share of powerhouses.
