Thanks to a lot of hard working, dedicated people, Justin has got the TBI funding that he needs. It's not a done deal. He still has to have another case worker assigned and she has to come and evaulate him and do some paper work. Then I have to try and get him on Medicade again. We have 60 days to get it all together. We trying to find a case worker for him.

But things are going in the right direction.

 

Grandma Bonnye, myself and Justin went on a tour of the Rehab Center and of the housing in Paducah. We were very impressed with the whole set-up. We got to meet the staff and most of the people. We even met a young man who only lives a couple of miles from us who has been there for 2 months and loves it. Justin is ready to go and said he will be running the place after he has been there a month.

Today is 1 year since Justin's accident, what a journey it has been.

 

Justin did an interview on Monday for a local paper called Our Town. It will be in this month's edition, so if you get this paper make sure to look for it.

 

Justin and I went to the Medicade office last week and got the paperwork going. They didn't even want to open a case because he is missing a letter that they need. Not sure when he will get the letter but I told them I was off work that day and they needed to start it. It's quite confusing the case will only stay open for 30 days.

 

We are still planning on the week of May 20th for Justin to go to Paducah. He has not had any therapy for quite a while and really needs it. We go for walks and do some therapy at the house but it is not enough. Justin has mixed feelings about going. Some days he doesn't even want to talk about it. After we drop him off they don't want us to come to visit for at least 30 days. They want him to get used to it and if we come and visit he might get homesick. I found out that is cost 18,000.00 a month (yes 18 thousand not 18 hundred). After a month they will evaulate him and tell us how long they think he will need to stay. There were some people that have been there for 4 years. Some of them have no where to go. Their families will drop them off and then have nothing to do with them. Abadoment is a big part of it, some family and friends don't know how to deal with them or can't. It's sad but true.

 

We are planning to go and get Justin at the end of June and going on a family vacation the week of July 4th.

 

We are looking forward to seeing those who can make it on Sunday May 6th, 2:00 at the Lookout Heights Civic Club.

I wanted to thank those who were able to come to the party on Sunday. We had a good turn out and weather was great. Thanks also to those who brought food it was much appreciated. Justin likes his food. Justin and I didn’t leave until around 9:00. We are working on thank you cards. Someone gave Justin a card but didn’t sign it. So someone won’t be getting a thank you card.

 

His interview was in Monday’s edition of Our Town. I thought it was a nice article and it had some good pictures of Justin.

 

We are still waiting to hear from Medicade. I am learning not to worry so much about things that are out of my control. Most things have been working themselves out. So we will just wait and see. As far as we are concerned we are still on for the week of May 20th.

Wow, that is so weird! I don't even know what made me think about this.

I went and got Justin and brought him home on Wednesday. He is so happy to be home and of course does not want to go back. We went and finished his Christmas shopping.

 

He finished his first semester at Western Comm College. He got a C in his history class and a A in his Stratagies class. I'm so proud.

 

He also has lost 20 pounds. I had to motivate him a little ($$$$).

 

He has great manners now, everything is yes maam and no maam.

 

It is so nice to have him home. He will be home until January 1st then Grandma Bonnye is going to take him back.

Justin went back to Paducah on New Year's day. He had a nice visit home. We had several family parties and he got to see most of his friends on New Years Eve.

He is starting back to school today he is taking 2 classes, Developemental Psychology and Intro to Sociology. He's ready to get back to school it gives him something to do.

He is disappointed that he is no longer getting pysical therapy, the therapist said he has peaked. I want to look into getting him a gym membership.

I will be going to visit him next month.

Justin seems to being doing okay. He dropped his sociolgy and psychology classes because he already took these at Northern. He is now taking a Chemistry and a computer class. He told me he only has to take an algebra and an english class in the summer and he can get an associates degree. So he's pretty psyched about that. He is planning to go back to Northern when he gets back home. His goal date to come home is October. Hopefully he will be ready and that they will release him.

We are planning to visit him once a month. We were going every 2 weeks but he seems to get home sick seeing us so often. They told us this in the beginning they thought every 2 weeks was too much. But of course I'm the mom and I know best. But I think I was wrong this time.

Please keep praying for Justin he still has a long hard road ahead.

Halie and I went to visit Justin the weekend of February 8th, it had been almost 6 weeks since we had seen him. I could tell a difference in him. He is

walking better, he was calmer and had us laughing alot. He is like

the governor of Paducah, every where we go he knows people.

 

He goes to his computer class on Thursday nights from 6 to 9 and they

are letting him go alone without a therapist. They drop him off and

pick him up. He likes having this independence. He will be starting his Chemistry class in March.

 

Justin ran into an old friend from high school (Kyle Landrum)a couple

of weeks ago at Walmart. So they exchanged numbers. The weekend before Halie and I went to visit Kyle came and got Justin and took him to lunch and running around. Kyle is attending a college that is about 40 minutes from Justin. They are planning to hang out on weekends once in awhile. I think its great that he has a friend close by.

 

They (CCS) are going to be opening another rehab center around Lexington or Georgetown. Not sure when. They are asking for volunteers from the participants from Paducah that might want to move. I told them to put Justin on the list. That would sure be nice. He would be so much closer to all of us.

 

Thelma and Louise (Grandma Bonnye and Aunt Linda) will be going to

visit Justin in March. He looks forward to them visiting because they

spoil him. Unlike his mother.

Grandma Bonnye went to visit Justin last week. She said he was doing good and she also thought his walking has improved. They did the usual eating, shopping and went to a movie.

 

Justin will start his Chemistry class next week. It is an online class so I'm not sure how it will go.

 

Justin's friend Kyle Landrum is an absolute angel. He goes and gets Justin and takes him back to his apartment. He has taken him to a couple of parties and basketball games. 2 weeks ago he picked Justin up and Justin stayed with him for 5 days. It is 1 1/2 hours round trip for him, so he spends about 3 hours driving back and forth to get Justin. What a sweetheart.

 

Justin has moved to a different house, it's on the same street. I have'nt seen it yet but Grandma and Kyle both said its nice. One of his roommates is 28 yrs old and the other is 21. Justin seems to get along with them both. They are not allowed to go into each other rooms so they can't hang out and play video games or watch movies together. Justin wants me to bring him another TV so they can put it in the common area.

Justin seems to be doing okay. He's hanging in there with his Computer Class but had to drop the Online Chemistry class. I thought it might be too much. I mean Chemistry is hard enough and to have to take a course online.

 

He moved to a new room. He is in the same house just a different room. They have been letting one of his room mates to go into Justin's room so they can hang out and play video games together. He seems to be getting along with his room mates fine.

 

My brother Rob and I are planning to go and visit Justin over the April 25th weekend.

 

Thanks to all of you who sent him Easter cards. He really enjoyed getting them.

 

Justin informed me that his counselor told him that he would not be able to move to the care center in Georgetown. That they were only accepting new participants. I am still planning on making some calls to see what I can do to get him moved.

Uncle Rob and I went to visit Justin this past weekend. We ate, shopped, saw a movie and gambled. None of us were winners. Justin had a great time. The weekend flew by.

 

Last weekend Kyle came and got Justin and Justin stayed with him for the weekend. Kyle will be coming back to Northern Kentucky for the summer break so I know Justin is going to miss hanging out with him.

 

Justin is counting the months until he can come home for good. Right now we are looking at December. He should be finished with school and have an associates degree. He then plans to go to school at Northern.
