Why Would A High School Program Hire A Middle School Coach To Take Over?

Featured Replies

Could a self aware MS guy step up and move directly to a HS HC successfully? Sure.

Need good experienced people on the staff and the awareness that HS and middle are different animals. Much deeper scouting, in depth coaching, players can handle more responsibility, etc.

I'll say this though, it is a hard adjustment for most if they haven't coaches HS ball before. Ultimately, though they can have success, especially at a less established program. Trinity certainly would likely not go this route but schools with limited success may be able to do this with success

I totally agree. It was Phillip Hawkins who was hired at Doss in 2014, and his top assistant at Westport Middle Carlo Stallings was just hired at Moore High School....

Hawkins was an asst at Ballard for a while before he took the job at Doss. I was thinking of Stallings at Moore but the other was Spiva at Valley. He was the head coach at Farnsley Middle.
