I assume about 80% of the apps we have are doing that already. Not sure what we can do about it other than not having smartphones.

The app has constant access to whatever, regardless of if it's being used or not. If it's installed, it has access to whatever you agreed for it to have access to.

 

A lot of stuff is extremely blown out of control. When the Facebook messenger app came out and everybody was losing their minds over "what it could do" without realizing what the access actually meant.

 

Simply put, pretty much every app has something you've given it access to. If you don't want it to have access to those items, don't install the app. Not using it doesn't make a difference.

I still laugh at the idiots who talk about not installing the Messenger app b/c of a bunch of permissions that they already grant to every other app they have on their phone.
