March 24, 201511 yr NCAA Women's Tournament Albany Region Second Round. USF was up 47-46 with 3:22 to go, but couldn't hold on. Great atmosphere, though. The Dome was rockin'. Dayton has their next opponent.
March 24, 201511 yr Author Rumor has it that Jose Fernandez has a couple of "sizable" players coming in next fall to bolster the front court. The entire team is coming back, with the exception of Tamara Taylor, who came off the bench and played little, last night. They're fun to watch, especially Courtney Williams (10). She's an amazing athlete. I've already locked my seats in for next year.

UK and UofL play much the same style. The only way for Dayton to beat them, if you can't match their size, is to shoot like Dayton did and/or get their bigs in foul trouble. If Dayton tries to play inside with the Cards, their going to get beat up. As for Louisville, Mariya Moore needs to keep herself in check. She's had 2 flagrant 1's in as many tournament games. That's going to hurt UofL at some point.

Continuing the trend. The Flyers were nearly .400 from behind the arc during the season and shoot free throws at almost 80 percent as a team. Now.. that 60 percent from three and 90 percent from the stripe were definitely outside the norm but definitely not unheard of. Three Flyers are shooting at least 50 percent from the field this season: Ally Mallott, Javonna Layfield, and Amber Deane. They're a fundamentally sound squad that really gets it done in big moments. Coach Jim Jabir has had this team right on the cusp for a few years now; I'm thrilled to see he finally made it into the second weekend. The program was a disaster when he showed up. Went 3-25 his first season. Then 12-16 in the second. He's now won at least 20 games each of the last eight seasons and has made six straight NCAA Tournament fields. I had the pleasure of meeting him with an alumni group a couple years ago. Loves to talk basketball and loves his job. Really great guy and a massive asset to the university.
