Southwestern 3 South Laurel 2

What was the story in this game?? Interesting matchup really; Southwestern had already been beaten this season by North Laurel and Whitley County. Anyone have any details?

Southwestern threw Branscum, and although North beat him, he's better than any pitcher in the 13th region.

Branscum is one heck of a pitcher. The loss to NL was a great game when he and Sams (NL) both were outstanding. Everyone I have talked with who has seen Branscum says he is one of the best, if not the best in the 13th region.

I agree with you 100 percent, over the winter, he has worked hard to develop his knuckleball to make him even harder to hit. I look for him to lead SWHS deep into the regional tournament.

An average knuckleball will get rocked by a good hitter.

Also, hardball, Whitley beat them as well. Any excuses for why that happened??

Whitley scored more runs than Southwestern.

In all seriousness, I think Whitley beat their #3 or #4 pitcher? Congratulations Whitley.

Good teams should expect to see the ace of other teams; espcially when it comes playoff time. So all of this talk about "they threw their ace" isn't going to cut it if you truly believe SL to be an elite team. Welcome to what Corbin and Middlesboro have been going through for 15-20 years.

Suck it up.

And congrats Whitley, you all held Southwestern to fewer runs than SL. That has nothing to do with who Southwestern threw. And you got the W.

Branscum and SW are in the 12th.

I'm not really sure what your point is. South Laurel isn't an elite team, but they're probably the best in the 13th region. Branscum is an elite pitcher, however, and would be the best in the 13th, hands down.

That's the biggest reason South was beaten by Southwestern. Not because South isn't any good, or is overrated, but because they faced a very good pitcher.

I guess we will have to agree to disagree on several of your arguments. I don't think SL is the best team in their district, much less the region.

My whole point was that if you expect to get respect as being a good team, you can't blame every loss on the pitcher you face. Good teams find ways to win no matter what pitcher they are facing.

Like I said, how can North Laurel beat the same pitcher that you title "better than any pitcher in the 13th hands down" and not be the best in the region?

Branscum and SW are in the 12th.

My mistake. I was thinking in terms of NL and SL who are now in the 13th.

Southwestern threw their #5 at Whitley. South Laurel is a good team, but if it wasnt for a couple of errors by Southwestern then SL probaly wouldnt have scored. The same situation against North. Both Laurel teams are good teams though.

Whitley may have thrown their #5 at Southwestern. Either way, even if their ace pitched, they held Southwestern to fewer runs then NL and SL.
