Bengals sign Michael Johnson

Featured Replies

He had a bad year last season but the final year he was with Cincy he was a top 10 DE. I'd take a chance with 6 mill.

He was a top 10 defensive end? Maybe his second to last year in Cincy but not his last year here. He probably wasn't even the best defensive end on the team his last year here. I know i was happier when they locked up Dunlap instead of him. Just look at his stats since his career year three years ago he has gone down each year since then. However as I said I hope he goes out and shows he is worth the money.

This is a good signing for the money. MJ is disruptive in the run and knocking down passes. The Bengals have both Dunlap and MJ who are long and lanky, which is disruptive. 4 years 24 M. It's very club friendly. The real key is can Geno get back to form. He is the key to their DL.

Geno is the key with or without MJ. The loss of MJ last year would not have been as noticeable if Geno was the old Geno.

The only reason why the money worries me is because his production has gone down each year since his one big year. Then with the Bengals having quite a few guys who contracts end after this year it makes me worried that the money would be bad if his production continues to decline and then also possbily not be able to sign or extend other guys. MJ says this is going to be his best year yet so if he can do that then it is a great signing for the money.

I think now they will draft Goldman at DT in the first round.

I think it all depends on who falls to them if they pick OT or DT.

I was happy to see him come back considering the alternatives and what they might have had to pay for them.

OL or LB IMO. They will slide Gilberry to DT some, not as big a need as the other two.

OL should be fine maybe WR/TE or DT.

OL has two on last year of contracts, Justice and Whit. Andre has trouble staying on the field. If a top rated OL is there at 24, they should grab him. Lots of WR in draft, they can wait. the top 3 won't get to them. TE is a stretch at this time. Seems like the best TE's are grabbed in rounds 2-4. DT only if a monster is there. They will go OL or LB

Glad to have him back, hope he & Dunlap can re-create the same type of disruption that they used to. I also agree with those that say Geno is key. Hopefully the Bengals will add a quality DT through the draft. Overall, I like what they've done this offseason. Nothing flashy, but as always, it needs to be built primarily through the draft.

What does Andre Smith's contract look like?

I think he has two years remaining. Nope just looked it up he is on the last year also. Both he and Whit are FA's after this season. This makes OL-tackle specifically, a priority.

Disagree Marvin Lewis has always valued more depth at the DL and secondary than LB's. With Tez, Rey M. Hawk, Lamur who they put a 2nd round tender on, Vinny Rey, and Flowers whom they are big on I just don't see them going LB in the first round. The only way I see it is if a guy like Bud Dupree falls down the draft who could be a LB or DE. I don't see them taking a guy who is only a LB. It would have to be a guy who could do either IMO.

LB is a need, maybe as big as they have, Dupree won't get to them.. Burfict is still a big maybe. Who is goingto cover the swing passes and TE up the seam. They have no one besides that who can do that consistently.

I'm not saying I disagree with what your saying. I am disagreeing that the Bengals even think about drafting a lb who is a lb only. They just signed Rey to a three year deal, Tez injury is a concern but they just locked him up too, then obviuisly the Hawk signing, Vinny Rey led the team in tackles last year so they know they have a good guy who could play any position behind the starters. They are still high in Lamur and think he can be that cover lb. Flowers is a very athletic guy they like a lot. So while we may be worried about it as fans. I Dont think they are as worried about it anymore and as I said the only way I see them take a lb is if he is one of those tweeners who could play either lb or DE. They may add a pure lb later in the draft but not in the first round unless a Bud Depree falls or a guy is a teeener.
