March 11, 201511 yr The guy is a genius business person. He stated last week he would make his decision based on money. I love the honessty, no mamby pamby junk about going to a winner blah blah blah. And through all of this he has a ring. 39M guaranteed. The guy could end up making 150+ million over his career. It helps when you are the best at your position. He has always held the cards and played them perfectly. I say good for him.
March 11, 201511 yr The tampering investigation is going to get a whole lot more interesting now. I imagine the league will make the Jets give NE a draft pick when all is said and done, along with a decent fine.

One of the more brilliant guys in football.

The NFL needs to clamp down on all tampering and the releasing of these signings prior to the league year getting underway. It does make thing exciting, but sheesh.

This one has been ongoing since December. The Jets owner publicly stated he wanted Revis back, and if he knew the $ it would've taken to get him last year, he would've done it. All this while he was on and under contract with the Pats. This just adds more fuel to the fire.
March 11, 201511 yr Dude has bet on himself to perfection. One of the more brilliant guys in football. Yes. Most guys either go for money or for a Super Bowl ring. This guy went for both and got both. I'll bet a lot of players are taking notice of how Revis did this and will try to figure out how they can emulate him. The trouble is, you have to have the talent to be able to shop yourself around for both the money and to pick your place.

If I was an NFL player I would do anything I could to maximize my earnings while in the league...and I mean hold out if I have leverage, even if under contract, etc. You only have a limited time to make your money in the NFL and you literally put your health on the line every day so get as much as you can while you can. The NFL owners have absolutely no loyalty to the players (they cut guys all the time if the contract does not work for them) so why should the players have any loyalty to the owners??

The Pats had to decline Revis' option before he could sign with another team. Revis signed a deal with the Jets that will pay him less next season than the Pats would have paid him if he got his option picked up. I can't see a case for tampering here at all.

It's 100% a textbook definition of tampering. You aren't allowed to discuss players that are under contract with another team, and most certainly aren't allowed to make the comments he made about wanting him back.

Report: Adrian Peterson told Jerry Jones he wants to play for Cowboys | For The Win No tampering charges for Dallas Cowboys over Adrian Peterson phone call - ESPN Dallas Not quite apples to apples, but if this received no penalty then Woody Johnson will get fined at worst, IMO.
