Sony/ATV Music Publishing owns the Beatles catalog. The Jackson estate owns half of Sony/ATV. The Beatles' surviving members and family estates are still compensated handsomely for songwriting, so they're not exactly getting screwed over the way old blues artists were back in the day.

There was discussion of that on a radio program. It sounds like some of the early blues artists were resistant to managers, agents, attorney's early on, they felt like that was becoming too corporate and would be selling out their music. Without professional help to advise and represent them, those artists had no idea what their music was really worth and how the industry worked.
