Murray 55 Paducah Tilghman 53 (1st region quarterfinal)

Murray made a big 4th quarter comeback

First regional appearance for Murray since 2001. First win in a regional tournament since 1994 when Murray beat Heath and Hickman County before falling to Graves County in the championship game.

Great game to watch. The story of this game is this: First quarter PT plays man to man. They trailed 15-11. Then they went zone. Played zone the second quarter. Lead by 5 at half. Third quarter they stayed in the zone and kept the 5 point lead. With somewhere around 2 minutes left the lead was either 7 or 9. Paducah goes man, Murray nails 4 straight 3's. Add in the fact that Tilghman missed a couple of Free Throws and with 20 seconds left you got a 1 point game. Murray takes a one point lead with .4 left on the clock. I have seen Murray several times this year and would never guessed playing zone would work they way they shoot the ball. They may have been just caught off guard. But they will face Graves County tomorrow night.

Furious rally saves Murray; Tigers use 15-4 flurry in final 90 seconds to win

Trailing 49-40 with 90 seconds remaining in the season, Murray High (22-9) had plenty reason to panic against Paducah Tilghman (21-7) in the quarterfinal round of the 1st Region Tournament Monday night.

But in one swift flurry, the Tigers pulled a rabbit out of their hat.

James Boone’s long jumper with less than a second remaining gave Murray a 54-53 lead, and after an inbound turnover from the Blue Tornado, Preston English put the exclamation point on a 15-4 run with a free throw – stunning the Tilghman fans with a 55-53 come-from-behind win for their first regional tournament victory in 21 years.

The Tigers hit four consecutive threes from four different players – Boone, English, Ethan Clark and Duane Curtis – before Tilghman’s Devon Hart missed two free throws with 9.1 seconds remaining.

Boone snatched the rebound, took two dribbles from halfcourt, nestled in front of his bench and pulled up from deep.

Ball game.

Wow, talk about snatching victory from the jaws of defeat. I hear Boone is a really special player who is clutch when called upon. How many did he end up with on the evening?

PT should learn from this and come back next year as an early favorite to be tops in the region along with Graves. Did the young freshmen from PT, JJ Reed, have a solid game? At 6'6" he is a very skilled player capable of playing on the wing that many bigger players his size never develop.

Boone is a really nice player. I'm a big fan.

He actually picked up his 2nd D1 offer after the game. This one from Lipscomb to go with the Samford offer he already holds.

Scott Padgett was at the game last night watching Boone.

Well Paducah closed the gap on the all time wins list this year with Ashland's horrendous season.
