March 4, 201511 yr Hank Gathers was one of the greatest, if not the greatest player to ever play in the King of the Bluegrass. 1984 KOB Finals #5 USA Today Philadelphia Dobbins Tech vs #3 USA Today Louisville Seneca,Tony Kimbro and Keith Williams…Dobbins Tech won (75-70) in one of the greatest games ever in front of a full house. One of my greatest memories ever at the KOB. Bo Kimble and Doug Overton (Dobbins Tech) went on the NBA. Hank Gathers, Loyola Marymount, one of three players to lead the NCAA in both scoring and rebounding…a sure #1 NBA pick. Lost 25 years ago today, gone but not forgotten.
March 4, 201511 yr My favorite college basketball player of all time. And outside of Kentucky, Gathers' Loyola Marymount teams were my favorite to watch. If you ever get the chance to watch Loyola and LSU from 1990, do yourself a favor and watch it.

I recall watching those highly entertaining games on local TV.

March 4, 201511 yr I saw Hank in UNLV's opening game in November of 1989, Vegas won by 10+. We sat really close to the LMU bench, this was nice because I was usually in the rafters. I loved the game when Michigan (defending champs) try to run with LMU, then preceded to get ran out of the gym 149-115. Very fun team to watch, the little white guy Jeff Fisher could launch. Saw Fisher about a decade later, he was shooting pool at Mutt Lynch's in Newport Beach.

March 6, 201511 yr I always feel a special connection to Hank Gathers because arrythmia had claimed my father several years before at a young age (but, for the record, after I was born). This same malady later claimed Reggie Lewis.
