Gunman lured officers to house, opened fire

Featured Replies

Lake Wales, Florida -- Lake Wales Police say a man called 911 to lure law enforcement officers to a house on Tuesday and then opened fire on them, wounding two of the officers.

John Goepferich, 59, called 911 about 5:55 p.m. and reported gunshots coming from his residence at 743 Hillside Ave.

Lake Wales officers arrived on the scene and immediately came under fire. More than 100 rounds were fired in the gun battle that lasted about 15 minutes.

Not really that surprised. Folks should get used to this.

Thank goodness the officers weren't killed. Too bad they didnt get a better shot at him.

Please tell me again why police officers don't need to wear protective gear like the military while on patrol or drive bullet proof vehicles?

Granted it may not be feasible from the officers standpoint to wear that much armor at all times.

I thought I read that one was killed. Maybe it was a different incident.

Because it looks mean.

I think there was another similar incident in the last day or so, where an officer was killed.
