gchs_uk9 Posted February 20, 2015 Posted February 20, 2015 With almost every team in Kentucky forced by weather into a 7-10 day break just before district tournament play, could we see any upsets in the opening round of the tournament? Typically the gap in talent in first round games is pretty wide, but there are some 2/3 games that should be close. What big names might be susceptible?

It could definitely help some teams that were in desperate need of getting their legs back. On the other hand, it could hurt some teams that had begun to find a rhythm
Fire Inside Posted February 20, 2015 Posted February 20, 2015 I say yes. Some teams are doing two practices a day while others in the same districts hasn't seen the inside of a gym in a week. I see upsets coming next week.
mcpapa Posted February 20, 2015 Posted February 20, 2015 Depends on school policy. Some allow practice when school is out, some don't. Some may be able to squeeze a game in to knock off the rust - Brossart at Mason County comes to mind.
GoHardITP Posted February 20, 2015 Posted February 20, 2015 For the most part the layoff creates "game day" rust, but unless a team is able to squeeze a game in then that should be something each team must deal with. Assuming teams are getting equal practice time, the only real benefit I see would be for the team that needed to get some rest and the lack of games allowed some nagging injuries or sickness to get time to completely heal. There is the potential those teams that are methodical and have rigid routines might be more bothered by the long layoff because they are thrown off a bit. Those teams that are more laid back and loose might not be bothered as much from an abnormally long time between games. Mentally the team that maintained focus in whatever practice time that was available should have the upper hand.
gold sunrise Posted February 20, 2015 Posted February 20, 2015 We had our game canceled with Henry Clay for Thursday night due that Fayette Co public teams can't play if there were no school that day. Our coach then scheduled Lexington Catholic, a private school that could play for tonight. IF this game had not been scheduled we would not have played for 10 days. Playing strong competition and games the week before district IMO really helps a team get ready for post season.

Fayette co public schools arent allowed to practice either...that doesnt apply to the privates though.
