I can't copy the article on my phone, but it basically said you can subtract a .2 - .24 from a hand time. So saying this kid ran between a 4.49 and a 4.54 sounds more accurate. It's still blazing fast

 

Speed is relevant to the competition. Numbers are great when trying to measure kids from different parts of the country. We can call his 40 a 8.0 if we want, bottom line for Baker is the fact that he was the fastest kid there. No matter what a stop watch has to say, he would be "top shelf" fast anywhere he goes.

I was at the combine as well. It was a little unorganized but overall not horrible like some others I have been. All the times were clocked by hand. they were off in some by quite a bit. I timed my son who is no speed demon at 4.8 and 4.73. they had him at 5.2 and 4.59. So take it with some salt as it was definatly nothing official. there was plenty of talent on display but most of the guys that had good measurables didnt show much in the 1v1s. the true studs obviously done well but the lesser known guys that ran fast times did nada in the competition part from what I could see. The 1v1s in these combines i think is where the true talent shows. I thought the DB were better than the WR as a whole. the QB were strong but seemed like all of them wanted to throw the ball deep very few short routes were ran. So hard to see who had any touch or accuracy. There were some massive lineman at this camp they were all impressive size wise. i stayed with the DB and WR for the most part so I didnt see much of the Lineman in their drills and competition. Overall the camp was decent had great talent. Was good to see where my kid stands in regards to the talent that was there.

Quinton Baker: Ran the fastest time of the day, a 4.29 on three watches, Baker definitely has some explosiveness and suddenness to his game. In an open-field tackling drill the Ashland (Ky.) Blazer talent looked like one of the more dangerous prospects there and toughest to corral. The former Kentucky commit visits Tennessee this weekend and called Notre Dame his dream school.

Baker would be the fastest person at the NFL combine?

Probably not since those are laser times for 20 yr old plus kids and he is 17. However, I believe he would be closer to the top than most would think.

Even if there's an error with the time (was hit on 3 watches but still hand timed) he's still fast as heck for 17. He's getting some bulk on him too, I look for his name to get out there at the bigger combines this summer
