White House security scare as drone found on grounds - NY Daily News

There was a security scare at the White House early Monday when a two-foot quadcopter drone was found in the middle of the night on the executive mansion's grounds.

The U.S. Secret Service is investigating, White House spokesman John Earnest said, but the aircraft did not pose a threat to the building. President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama were on a three-day visit to India, but their daughters, Sasha and Malia, were at the White House.

An unnamed law enforcement official told NBC News the drone landed in a tree just after 3 a.m. Monday on the southeast side of the complex.

"An investigation is underway to determine the origin of this commercially available device, motive, and to identify suspects," said Secret Service spokesman Brian Leary.

Emergency vehicles with lights flashing were gathered near the mansion's southeast entrance immediately after the aircraft was discovered.

The Secret Service established a security perimeter around the White House, restricting access, as agents searched the bushes lining the mansions driveway.

It's the latest breach of security at the White House and comes at a time of turmoil within the Secret Service, which has been criticized since a man armed with a knife hopped the fence in September and made it into the building before being subdued.

I'm thinking Guru is responsible...he almost said as much in another thread.

I sure hope the last few months haven't been test runs for what's to come. Scary stuff.

Seriously. Whether you agree with whoever's in that seat, you have to be concerned about the serious breach in security these things can cause. I mean, what's to stop someone from sending up one of those quadcopters with a pound or two of C4 and a remote detonator attached to it, and dropping it straight down onto Marine One once it touches down?

I was just going to post "these are test runs". I don't care who is in the Whitehouse, who has majority on Capital Hill, none of that matters, sadly something will be attempted, we are in a different era.
