Who are the top sleeper teams in the 9th?

Featured Replies

I'm curious outside of the three top teams in the 9th if their are any other teams that could challenge them for the 9th Region title.

My top three are Holmes, HC and Highlands to this point.

My top two sleeper teams would be Ryle and Dixie.

IMO....

Ryle seems to be playing better and has enough talent that could take down one of the top three I mentioned above on any given night.

Dixie can always be dangerous with Tibbs lurking in the middle and if their guard play can come along may be a dangerous team to play as well. They have an X factor in the middle if the perimeter players can take care of it on the offensive end.

My honest opinion, the sleeper teams are Ryle and Notre Dame. And possibly a long shot with Boone and NCC. Now with that said, I have not seen Dixie yet, but unless they changed dramatically from last year, I would stick with my gut.

We will find out about Ryle and ND this weekend. Ryle plays HHS tonight and ND plays Holmes tomorrow!

It looks as if Ryle has righted the ship. I would say they are a a sleeper, and the other sleeper would be Notre Dame. I don't care what their record is, I would not want to face them in the districts or if they make it to the regional.

A sleeper than can win the 9th? I don't think there is one. Three legit teams that can. One of those three will win it.

Not to be mean, but agree about winning the 9th. I don't think anyone else could win against two of those teams in a row to win the tournament. But sleeper team to beat any of those teams once on a given night, I think either Ryle or ND could beat any one of them. I don't think either of those teams would lose 10 out of 10 to any three of those teams.

Ryle is scary because they have all the tools IMO. ND is scary because their top 6 are athletic, strong and disciplined.

That's why I wanted to clarify between a one-game upset vs winning the entire tourney.

Couldn't you win one game against one of the top three and win the 9th

I don't think so because HC and Holmes will have to be opposite sides since they are in the same district, so if you beat one, there's a good chance you'd have to face the other in the finals or HHS. Heck, there's a chance you'd have to play all three if you ended up on the side with two of the top three.

3 horse race, anything else would be a long shot winner paying big dollars!

Never count your chickens in the 9th. Nuff said.

Yep, got to agree with Panda...

Just when ya think the top seed is going to win it all because on paper they will win, along comes some lady stomping her high heel on the hardwood, manipulating referees like they are her own kids and winning games when they count.

Grooming and coaching a team that has been so quiet at times all yr because of growing pains and kids not understanding the message from the coach and then all of a sudden everything clicks at the precise moment and now you got a contender and a spoiler.

That is the definition of a sleeper imo...:thumb:

I haven't seen Holmes or Ryle play so can't comment on them, but would have to believe Notre Dame is a dark horse to win. As you all know, the early season means nothing, but who gets better throughout the year is what matters most. The real question is who has raised the level of their play to a high level come districts/regional time? Notre Dame played competitively against Sacred Heart this past week and we have improved greatly from the beginning of the year.

It then comes down to match ups and how the regional is seated. If Notre Dame gets a good draw, and one of the other teams like Holmes gets knocked off then they have a shot to win. On paper it looks like a three horse race, but remember "Mine that Bird" won the Kentucky Derby!

Good insight RCC, you caught that.

If Holy Cross is the powerhouse everyone says, then the St.Henry team that played the first half of the All A Championship may surprise a few experts in the coming weeks.
