Yes he did. :thumb:

Five touchdowns sounds good but, he played for both teams. Maroon team played terrible. Most railbirds felt they were a two touchdown lock before the game. I guess we felt size would win out.

Very bad pass defence by maroon.

Do you railbirds even know anything about football? :D

Well, I would say we are a little rusty but, after all it is still spring.

Hope to improve during two a days this Aug.

Our coaching record is still intact we have not lost a game!!!! :ylsuper:

Sounds impressive to me.

I thought the scrimmage was a lot of fun – especially the snow. I hope that we’re still playing next fall when the snow starts falling. Maybe this was a good sign.

It was a pretty high scoring outing. I thought the offense looked better than the defense. But, I know that a lot of our starting defensive players did not participate in spring ball. So we did not see our first string defense Saturday.

I thought our sophomore (to be) running backs looked good. Blake McLeod and Tremell Young (spelling ?) both can be impact players in the not too distant future if they stick with it and keep working hard. Upperclassmen Mike Tussy and Chris Hall also looked strong and will probably see more playing time on Friday nights this year.

Darrell Mahan made some good reads Saturday. He ran the ball well and threw well too – at times. I thought he threw the ball better early in the scrimmage. Maybe he got tired – he did play offense for both teams, which didn’t allow him a break in the action. IMO the biggest issue for Mahan will be winning the respect of his teammates. Most of the doubtful posters that I see on here are current players. He needs to work hard over this spring and summer to win them over. I think he will be fine come August.

I have high hopes for this year’s linemen. I think the team’s success will ride on their backs. That is probably always true. But I think it is especially true for the Tomcats this year. The linemen are big and strong – and seem to work well together. I hope that they take their job seriously and carry the team far.

....and, laced with.......truth......and.....wisdom.

The offense probably looked better than the defense, because the defense was playing a base set the whole game with no blitzes or DL stunts. That makes a big difference when you just set in a 4-4 or whatever Ashland plays and just play regular plain defense. It takes a lot of pressure off the OL when the LB's and DL are just playing their regular techniques and not stunting. I think the Defense will be the main strength for the Cats this season, when the pads start popping in August and the Coaches have had enough time to put in their defensive package with all their stunts and blitzes. Spring games, passing leagues, etc.. are always set up better for the offense because of the limited defensive packages you can throw at the offense. Wait till Coach Hart and Coach Love put all that speed on defense like they do and start blitzing Linebackers and Defensive Ends from all over the place. If they did that in the spring the offense in a intrasquad scrimmage with only 8 or 9 practices under their belt wouldn't be able to get 3 consecutive first downs.

Enjoy the fact the boys had a chance to have a spring game and that numbers are really up at Ashland. Don't be too quick to judge the team as a whole because it's hard to tell how good they really are with starters broken up on two different teams. Wait until they put all those #1's with #1's from each team and then judge how good they will be. I think Ashland fans will be pleasantly surprised. A backfield with Mahan, Thomas, and Davis and wideouts Bonner and McDavid doesn't sound too bad for a "possibly" potent offense.:thumb:

3high: I completely agree that it is too soon to judge this Tomcat squad – we haven’t seen anything yet. This was all just for fun, and a little experience.

Can they finally beat Russell?

Can they finally beat Russell?

That game should be a doozy at the holy grail called Putnam Stadium.

Can they finally beat Russell?

Let's hope so!!

2 years in a row seems like an eternity in a series controlled by the Cats.

This game doesn't really mean much. It never has and never will, just for fun. Ashland still holds the all time series record anyways.

I disagree. Every game means somthing. When games stop having meaning then thats when we start losing.
