East Carter 55 Covington Holy Cross 44

Featured Replies

Holy Cross just didn't have it. Too many girls hurt, missing and sick. Shot terribly, didn't take care of the ball. East Carter (who was missing a starter as well) hit everything they threw up in the second half to come back from 10.

Who was out for HC?

D. Turner (19-20 ppg) didn't play at all. ... Point guard McClendon was playing with injured foot (ankle, I think) and couldn't plant her foot and push off, which really took away her game -- both defensively and offensively. Couple players down the bench still hurt and didn't play and three of the bigs (C. Mayhaus, Hassert and Gabbard) were sick or trying to get over being sick/hurt). On Saturday, Hassert apparently couldn't lift her arms above her shoulder cuz of spasms. She didn't play in the Sacred Heart game at all. Against East Carter she and C. Mayhaus saw limited action.

Don't get me wrong. East Carter could shoot. They didn't miss much in the second half. Good team. And they were missing a key player as well.

Would like to have seen the pace of that game with everybody healthy.

Wow! The walking wounded!! Turner just ill? Unfortunately, "the plague" is effecting several teams. I guess it's better now than later.

Not a good choice of words for this one.

East Carter has had their bouts with the flu. Both teams are really good and can make serious noise in the state tourney. Nice to see two 16th region teams in final four

I might be among the minority, but I'm not a fan of these long, four- and five-day holiday tournaments.

Like many other schools, HC girls had hard-score exams all last week (with practices, games and a team service project in the evenings), then left from school shortly after their last exam on Friday. They've been in Lexington since. If HC had won last night, they'd be there until tomorrow evening.

Lots of tense BB, lots of studying, very little sleep, sickness going around ... equals exhausted girls.

Agreed.

I agree. Add in exams to an already busy schedule and added games and it wears on the players for sure. My daughter was exhausted last week and we didn't play any games out of the ordinary. Studying, practice, illness and the few games we had were enough and she's a tough cookie most of the time.

I think in general, scheduling needs to be more sensitive to the academic calendar!

Same for many schools. East Carter and Ashland both played Saturday, drove home that night to drive back Sunday to save $$$.

Need to howl at the coaches then. It's their discretion when, where, and what to schedule. Easily could play games/schedules that were less demanding til finals were over. As for the back to back, in the event any of these teams get to Diddle, they will likely be thankful they had the tourney rigors already tried.

Crazy. Must have been exhausted being down by 10 and winning by 11.

Turner has a sprained ankle... will probably sit today as well. I think it was the right decision to sit her... let's get 100% healthy.
