December 20, 201411 yr With the winter meetings over I thought I'd start a hot stove thread to keep up with the moves between now and spring training.
December 20, 201411 yr Author The Red Sox traded 3rd baseman Will Middlebrooks to the Padres for catcher Ryan Hanigan. Middlebrooks became expendable when the Sox signed Sandoval. Hanigan is a nice backup and might be viewed as insurance in case Boston has to include top catching prospect Blake Swihart in a trade for an ace. The Red Sox have just 11 players remaining from the 2014 opening day roster. http://espn.go.com/boston/mlb/story/_/id/12052530/boston-red-sox-work-middlebrooks-deal-san-diego-padres
December 20, 201411 yr Author The Miami Marlins obtained Martin Prado and pitcher David Phelps from the Yankees for pitcher Nathan Eovaldi, first baseman Garrett Jones and minor league pitching prospect Domingo German. http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/mlb-big-league-stew/report--yankees-send-martin-prado-to-marlins-in-five-player-trade-190129727.html
December 20, 201411 yr Would've liked to see the Reds pursue a guy like Prado. Can play third or LF. Decent stick.
December 20, 201411 yr Padres OF is Wil Myers' date=' Justin Upton & Matt Kemp? That's solid.[/quote'] They had a triple A lineup last year. Insane.
December 20, 201411 yr Author They had a triple A lineup last year. Insane. And they still won 77 games...
December 20, 201411 yr A guy like Evan Gattis could be a fit for the Reds. Braves are open to moving him, and he can play LF. Haven't heard the two teams linked yet, but it makes sense to me.
December 20, 201411 yr With all the moves made by "bad" NL teams (Marlins, Cubs and Padres), could the Reds go into 2015 as possibly the worst team in the NL?? Who are they better than...Phillies, Mets, Rockies and Diamondbacks are the only teams that I think are NOT definitely better than the Reds in 2015 (on paper).
January 15, 201511 yr Phillies will move Hammels but looking for a king's ransom in return. They are willing to wait until the summer if they don't like the offers. Rangers, Cardinals and Padres are rumored to be interested with the Red Sox "in the background". Hammels has a pretty lengthy No-Trade list if I remember correctly, but I know San Diego (his hometown) and St. Louis (his wife's hometown) are welcomed destinations. Cardinals and Moziliak are laying in the weeds on the pitching market and ready to pounce. I think they are waiting on Scherzer to sign and then will move. They are rumored to be in on Scherzer, but my bet is they make a move on Price when Scherzer heads back to Detriot. That, or bring in Hammels.
January 21, 201511 yr Astros gave Colby Rasmus 8 mill for 1 year.... that is amazing. If you can hit 25 HR your worth at least 10 mill per year now I guess.
