I never said next year, I said within the next 2 years. I think Johns talent level in their sophomore , junior players next year could be the best ever. I also think that they can finally get over the hump and bring a state championship to John Hardin. If not next year, definitely in 2016.

Johnson central beat belfry by plus 20 the past 2 seasons. SW isn't close to belfry. Cov cath and highlands are more than decent teams . Separate them and they each win a state title.

Agree with Highlands, disagree with CVov. Cath. They were a myth that we all bought into on here. They were not more than a "good" team this year.

 

I agree that JC's win against Belfry was impressive albeit that it came when Belfry was the walking wounded and minus half their starters.

 

As for those other's named:

 

Rockcastle doesn't have the speed to play against the teams from the West I've named.

 

Bourbon got clobbered by a bad Warren Central team last year with what was supposed to be their best team.

 

Wayne had a nice thing two years ago. that nice thing graduated and they are back to being Wayne...a good, well coached team, that lacks the elite players to play with the likes of those teams I've named.

 

Mason..well coached, nice players, can't win against the likes of the teams I've named IMHO.

 

Again, I simply think it's a one sided class. But I've been wrong a lot before...

I call Johnson Central Cupcake eaters because of who they play. They finally played a decent Cov. Cath. team at home and got handled. Who else is over there? Ashland, Knox Central, Holmes? I just don't see any names that I'd put within 21 points of SW or JH...or Franklin Simpson, or Warren Central, or several others from the West. It just looks totally one sided to me. JMO

 

I wouldn't call 19-7 being handled. JC gained almost 100 more yards of offense than CC in the game and only gave up 12 points defensively. The turning point in the game was the blocked FG attempt that was returned for a TD. After that, an INT after the starting QB for Central went down to set up short field and the last TD late in the 4th. You can call it however you want, but the people from Highlands have even stated that this was the best Cov Cath team they have faced since the 2006 State Champion team. As for the Belfry comment in another post, Belfry's whole offense played that game and the JC defense held them scoreless and Hatfield to 10 yards for the game. The same Hatfield that ran for 230+ on Louisville Central. You can't win a game if you can't score.

 

To talk about SW being the favorite moving up a class when they couldn't make it to BG as a 4A team playing in 3A is a little crazy, but it's a fair statement from a fan.

Not quite.

 

Bentley and Horton did not play (TE1 and TE2), Catron did not play (HB 2), and Willis (HB 1) played but only saw a handful of snaps (3 carries for 5 yards). In addition, Noah Corbett was starting at QB and left the game in the 1st Half with an injury and did not return.

 

Belfry played the 2nd Half moving Taylor to QB and a using Two Freshman at one HB along with moving TJ Dotson from SE to play the other HB spot.

 

With that said, Belfry's OLine (outside of the TE spot) was in tact and their top two rushers in Taylor and Hatfield were healthy and JC shut them down. That is something no other team came close to doing and is impressive in it's own right.

 

What I will say is had JC been 3A there is no doubt that at the very minimum they would have been an equal to Belfry... and most likely the better team and the 3A State Champion. It's pretty clear Belfry showed they were the best 3A team when it was said and done so I think at the very least the difference between JC and South Warren is minimal heading into next season.

 

I tend to side with the posters talking about John Hardin. I think that is a team to really keep an eye on next year in 4A.
