Emphasis on guess.... I think you laid it out pretty well when you followed up implying they moved to Columbus. Pretty cut and dry then.

Hamilton Township is a decent team.

Not a lot of history as far as football goes.

Every time I see this thread title, I think of Jake from State Farm.

As much as I hate to say it, probably a losing record for the Tomcats next season.

A positive for Jake as well, is Hamilton Township has a good Track and Field coaching staff and a nice facility. They are not the local track power house, but definitely always produce some individuals who perform well at the state meet.

I have no idea what next season's schedule looks like...but if it includes Ironton, JC, Russell, and George Washington those are all teams Ashland lost to this season, and I don't think Ashland will be better after losing Long and breaking in a new QB next year.

I feel like with the effort given at Highlands and the junior class being the better of the two upper classman groups that next year will be a good one. There are answers to the questions for positions and I think the coaching staff will find them.

I understand what you mean about the Jr. class. But what you might want to consider is the sophomore class, who will be relied upon heavily to contribute on the varsity level next year. Outside of Noah Roberts there are not many players with legit varsity experience.....

That's the way it usually is. Typically junior and seniors get the majority of the snaps. You may have a very talented frosh or soph come in and get pt right away, but its not normally the case.

 

That's why we have freshman and jv teams. I think the sophomore class will be fine. They will have to gain experience, but that's always the case.

True, they always have to gain experience. But in my opinion that soph. class simply lacks athletes...I could be wrong but....

It may, I'm not up on it like I used to be years ago. Some kids develop slower/quicker than others though. Other kids may have started playing organised ball late and don't start to shine until their junior/senior seasons.

 

I understand what your saying though and agree that it could potentially be an issue. But honestly, we won't know until they start getting significant minutes. I wouldn't write them off just yet.

I came to this forum because of this thread. My son plays for Hamilton Township and when I heard we had a transfer who was a pretty good football player I had to do some research. I was pleasantly surprised to watch Jake Long's highlight films. A friend of mine sent me a link to this thread so I wanted to pop in and comment.

 

Yes, Jake Long did transfer and move to Hamilton Township. I hear he is hitting the weight room pretty hard and has been fully utilizing the facilities we have to run sprints and work on every aspect of his game on his own even after most of his new team mates have called it a day. He is putting in the work to be an impact player in our revitalized program.

 

The Hamilton Township Rangers do not have a storied history. We have over the years had splashes of success but there was no consistency in the program. In recent years the district hired a young coach named Nate Hillerich who has been building a solid program from the ground up and has gotten the whole community involved from the pee wee leagues on up. Coach Hillerich has led the Rangers to back to back Mid State League Titles and took the Rangers to their first playoff appearance since 2002, prior to that the Rangers had not made the playoffs since 1989.

 

Jake is coming into an ideal situation. We have some D1 talent graduating this year in Seniors Deric Phoutavong(WR) & Aaron Williams(RB). They have both been recruited by Big Ten schools among others and last I heard Williams was going to West Virginia. We do have a Junior running back who was slated to be the starter as a Senior next year but we don't yet have a star WR returning. There are some holes being left behind that Hamilton will be thankful Long has come to help fill.

 

I am really looking forward to seeing him play next season. Ashland will miss him by what I am reading but he is coming to a good program with excellent facilities in a fantastic school district. The community is very supportive so we will do our best to make him feel at home and welcome.

You have a great one in Jake Long. He is a great athlete, 4.3 speed and has good size/vision. He had some D1 interest this season at Ashland, I expect he will make a D1 roster somewhere.

 

I hope your team and Jake have a great season next year. I hate losing him, but wish him and your program the best. It sounds like the young man is in good hands.
