December 13, 201411 yr Reports I read said they were on a patrol, but that's not the point. If they were so afraid why even go in the building if they weren't there trying to patrol. They could have just stayed in their car. No where have I defended this shooting or their actions after the shooting...my point is that this could have just as easily been a white guy that got shot as a black guy...as much as you want all police actions to be racially motivated some are just mistakes without race being involved. You don't know how you'd feel? You can't think about that for a minute and know if you'd be prejudiced or have preconceived ideas or not. Do you have those thought's now, or do only police officers have them? From one of several articles: "Adding to the tragedy surrounding Gurley’s death, the officers involved were not supposed to be doing a patrol in the stairways, the sources said. Deputy Inspector Miguel Iglesias, then the head officer of the local housing command, ordered them not to carry out such patrols, known as verticals. He opted instead for exterior policing in response to a spate of violence at the East New York housing project." So do you think they would have taken it upon themselves to go into a high rise condo in uptown Manhatten that had a recent spate of crime? If they did do you think they'd have performed their patrol of people's homes with guns drawn?

If they did do you think they'd have performed their patrol of people's homes with guns drawn? I would hope so if there was a recent "Spate of Crime". Police officers should patrol where there is crime...are you saying the residents in that building don't deserve police protection and patrolling. Police Should be where the crime is and not avoid it. If police were ignoring these areas then the outcry would be that the police weren't doing their jobs. There are areas in our county that are much more crime ridden that others, the police don't ignore those areas...they patrol them. >>
