Well, this sucks. The past couple of years we have been invited to and enjoyed scrimmaging some KHSAA teams at a couple of different scrimmage events. Been able to scrimmage Bath Co a couple of times, Berea. KHSAA changed their rules this year...can't even do pre-season scrimmages against KHSAA teams anymore. Puts a couple of holes in my schedule. I don't get it...these type scrimmage games weren't hurting anyone.:idunno:

Don't know Clyde, the KHSAA by-law doesn't specifically state what the reason(s) are. Just finished reading them while ago after being informed by Berea that we can no longer participate in their pre-season scrimmage event because of the new rule.

No, would like to be able to do that but we can't. We technically are not a school but are a ministry/outreach program. We would have to be either a school to join the KCAA or a school or homeschool affiliated program to join the KCSAA. We play many of those teams as an independent, but there are several small public and private schools that fall under KHSAA jurisdiction that would be great fits playing wise for us and them. As a matter of fact I had a coach from one of these very small publics call me a few days ago inquiring about possibly scheduling some games and wasn't aware of the by-laws. Still trying to figure out if there is a waiver or something that can be granted in situations like that. I mean, when you have some public school with less than 50 boys in the high school and you just literally can't compete with anyone in your area that you play in the KHSAA...why not allow them to schedule teams like ours, or similar KCAA schools, where they might actually have a chance to compete.:idunno:

 

Ironically, we can go to OH and IN and play anyone who will schedule us. Played a top 20 (at the time) IN high school in a big tournament in Richmond, IN last year. Sure, we got smashed, but we play 4 games, had fun and have some great memories.

a) KHSAA member schools may only compete in contests in

I was NOT good enough to make the basketball team (school had 1700 kids at the time, although I might not have made it with 800 kids, so ....)

 

None of my friends made the HS varsity team.

 

We all played every Saturday morning in a league ran by a local church (about 12 area churches had teams for boys in grades 9-12). We knew we weren't ever going to play other high schools, but we were OK with that.

 

Granted you're not in an area that has that option, but it seems your team (non KHSAA school based team) is in the same boat???

We are essentially a glorified church league team in essence... more organized than most and travel and play a lot, but pretty much what we are. And I have had some teams in the past that would have very possibly beat several KHSAA teams that most on this board would know or have heard of. Matter of fact we had a 4A Indiana team on the ropes last year and just lost steam the last 3 minutes and they finally separated from us. So if you are saying the KHSAA wouldn't allow it for competition reasons, then no that's not necessarily the case because many years we could more than compete with several smaller schools. And both IN and OH allows it... we have played several schools from both states. Some smaller KY schools would benefit from being able to play teams like us.

The NFHS, National Federation of High Schools inly recognize ONE organization per state and in Kentucky that is the KHSAA. It states in our King of the Bluegrass Official Contrat that "You must be a member of the NFHS". That's why we can't have schools like Huntington Prep, where the players attend St. Joseph High School, and Oak Hill. These schools can play in Kentucky if they play each other but they can't play KHSAA members.
