Pendleton County 28 Bishop Brossart 27

Always a war when these two hook up at Veteran's Stadium.

PCo runs back the opening kickoff (Crumes 90 yd return) and it was 6-0 in the first fifteen seconds.

Breakaway run by #4 Hunter Lea for 72 yards made it 13-0 with the game less than 3 minutes old.

Lea strikes again with 1:29 in the first period, this time from 1 yard out and it was 20-0 after one quarter.

A bad snap by the Wildcats gets past the quarterback and rolls into the endzone where it is recovered by Mustang sophomore Jake Martin, and the Mustangs made it 20-7, which is where it was at intermission.

The Mustangs came out fired up to start the second half and following a big runback by Nathan See, marched the football 45 yards, culminated by a 7 yard touchdown pass from Clay Kramer to Garrett Ahlbrand, and the Cats were now within range at 20-14. However, the Cats answered with a 63 yard drive of their own, topped off with a 3 yard run by Lea, his third TD of the evening, and the Cats extended back to 28-14 with 4:14 to play in the third period. That is the way the third quarter ended.

Brossart would rally early in the fourth quarter when Garrett Ahlbrand intercepted a Austin Stull pass and took it 45 yards to the house and suddenly it was 28-21 with 10:23 to play in the game. With 2:17 remaining in the game the Mustangs closed to within a PAT, as Clay Kramer scored from 5 yards out and caused the Wildcat faithful some anxious moments. They dodged the bullet when the PAT attempt was blocked and the game would end 28-27 with the Cats winning their third game of the season, with Ludlow coming to town to finish out the 2014 football campaign at Pendleton County.

The Mustangs will lick their wounds and get on the bus Thursday to close out their season in Warsaw against the Gallatin County Wildcats.

What a battle! Congrats to the Cats on the win... desperately needed that one. Mustangs have nothing to be ashamed of. They battled and made great adjustments after the first quarter.

As Mustang said to me with about a minute to go...any time these two teams get together on the gridiron, it leads to a instant classic. Officiating was...suspect. I've watched Brossart play for years, and their discipline is second to none. I doubt that's changed overnight. I'll leave it at that.

I really feel like Jaleel Crumes is a star in the making.
