Montgomery County 1 Bishop Brossart 0

Here is a photo of the first violation. I'm not a soccer guy, so don't know exactly what it is that I'm looking at, or what I'm looking for.

My question is, Is there a clear violation here??? Clear enough so as to be called in a regional semi-finals game that effects the outcome of a major contest and a team's season???

Secondly, as in any contest decided by an official, it sounds like we had opportunities to score in regulation/ot, and had we taken advantage it would never have come down to an official's decision.

Take a look at his feet and then find the blue line behind him......I would say yes......his dive would need to start with his feet on that front line. Looks to be a foot or two in front....

Rich Frommeyer's Game report:

Both Montgomery County and Bishop Brossart battled hard and the Mustangs defense was strong and when the Indians did get a break away Jeff (Money) was always there for the save. The Mustangs had 30 shots on the night and 16 on goal. They painted the posts with shots and peppered the keeper, but couldn’t get one past him. The Mustangs also had 10 corner kicks to zero for Montgomery County. Montgomery County had 10 shots on goal and 13 total shots on the night. The Mustangs controlled the ball and out played the Indians all night, but has been the case all season couldn’t find the elusive goal when they needed it most.

After 80 minutes of action the game was tied 0-0. The teams battled hard in the two overtime periods and the Mustangs controlled the ball the majority of time. After the 90 minutes we were headed to the dreaded PK Shoot-out.

With Jeff Paulin (Money), the best goalkeeper in the state you think we have a good shot at winning this with just one stop as the Mustangs in overtime hadn’t missed a PK all year.

The Mustangs were up first and Jacob Frommeyer shot upper 90 for a no doubter for the early 1-0 lead. Next up Montgomery County shot was blocked by Money. The AR called Jeff for leaving early and the player got another shot. Jeff guesses right again and makes a great save and again the AR calls Jeff for leaving early. The third time would be the charm as Jeff was unable to save a third ball by the same Indian and the score was tied 1-1. Gift 1 & 2.

The Mustangs next player shot on target and the Montgomery County keeper left early and this time the AR didn’t lift his flag. Even the newspaper reporter on the sideline saw him leave early as well as every Mustang fan in the stands and a few Montgomery County fans. This will be remembered as the gift number 3.

The AR definitely had Jeff rattled at this point as Jeff was unable to save the next ball and the Mustangs were down 2-1. Dylan Geiman was next up and sent a scorcher lower right corner that the keeper had no chance for the 2-2 tie. The Montgomery County player got it past Jeff for the 3-2 lead. Senior, Matt Smith was next up for the Mustangs and he put a perfect ball lower right corner for the 3-3 tie. Montgomery County got one just past Jeff for the 4-3 lead.

The Mustangs final shooter was Senior, Nick Dierig and he sent another no doubter past the keeper for the Mustangs 4-4 tie. Then Montgomery County’s final kicker sent it past Jeff and the season was over for the Mustangs.

The Mustangs crowd was fantastic tonight. The students as always didn’t disappoint with their great cheers, costumes, and support for their fellow student/athletes. The Mustang Nation has a strong following and a great student body that is always there to cheer their friends and schoolmates on. Of all the soccer games I have witnessed this one by far is the hardest to swallow the way it ended to finish kids careers.

We will have to say goodbye to some very talented good men this year as we do every year in high school sports. The Seniors are Jeff Paulin, Matt Smith, Jon Henn, Nick Dierig, Jacob Frommeyer, Evan Berkemeyer, Mark Goller, Dalton Linebach, Chase Hauke, and Gabe Roberts.

This group gave us many thrills over the years winning the All A Championship last year as well as the 37th District Champs and the 10th Region Champs, and making it to the Sweet 16 of Soccer. This group also were winners of the Freshman and JV Regional Championships. This year the Mustangs won the 37th District Regular Season Championship for the third year in a row, runners up in the 37th District Championship tournament and runners up in the All A State Championship this year.

I would have to agree with the explanation from OTB.

I was not at the match, but spoke to someone who was there and also saw a video, they say that it clearly shows him coming forward early and they called him on it.

Not sure you can tell one way or another from a still photo. Yes, he is in front of the end line but the ball is also in flight so.....he could have jumped forward at the same time the ball was struck. Only video would tell. Tough way to lose for any team.

There should be a better way to decide a game then PK's. Its like a basketball game ending in a tie and they decide to have a free throw shooting contest to get a winner. In hockey in the playoffs they keep playing unit a goal is scored. Soccer should do the same.

Soccer is much longer and continuous than both those sports. Fouls get clumsier, players get more frustrated, injuries more prone to happen. I don't see that as the solution. Eventually you just need to put the game out of its misery.

Well as this situation shows, it is nothing at all like a free throw shooting contest. There is a shooter and a goalkeeper trying to stop the shot. Last bball game I was at they didn't have someone trying to block free throws. Keep drinkin'.....

Drunk Johnny - great handle, especially for a high school forum. :)

Then hockey has shoot outs....

Then hockey has shoot outs....

A hockey shootout is just like a free throw shooting contest in basketball except the players are wearing ice skates......and playing on ice......and it's a puck.........and there is big goaltender........OK, forget it, it's nothing like a free throw shooting contest.

I agree that PKs are horrible ways to decide soccer games.

How about the first OT you play 8 on 8, second OT 6 on 6, or play with two balls, or something other than PKs.

Any time I attend a game that goes to PKs I leave feeling like I just wasted two hours of my life. We could have started the game with PKs and then gone on with the rest of our lives.

Agree. I don't like PKs at all.

It's a rough way for a career to come to an end.

I saw it from a distance it happended quick and was over just as quick. It looked like his emotions may have gotten the best of him. On another note this kid played an outstanding match he kept the Montgomery attackers away from Paulin most of the night. Like I said it looked like his emotions just got the best of him nothing more from what I saw.

Just for a clearer understanding of what happened (atleast from my point of view) only being a couple feet away. The player ran on to the field screaming and yelling at the refs as if he was going to attack them with fits flying around and it took maybe 4 or 5 Brossart players to stop him. The coach also had to jump in. I do understand that emotions get to you but I wouldn't say this was a quick situation. If it wasn't for the teammates getting him under control one of the refs would have probably ended up on the ground.
