October 23, 201411 yr NFL Network's Ian Rapoport has suggested the Cincinnati Bengals could be looking to offload tight end Jermaine Gresham before the deadline, writes bleacherreport.com's Nate Loop. "[The Bengals] already have Tyler Eifert coming off an injury," Rapoport said, via ESPN Insider's Tom Carpenter (subscription required). "It seems they've already replaced (Gresham), he could be had too." Will the Bengals trade OU's Jermaine Gresham?
October 23, 201411 yr How and why would you trade the only healthy TE you have? I'm sure Eifert makes him tradeable if......(Giant IF) he can stay on the field. Since that is unknown at this point I don't think Gresham is going anywhere.
October 23, 201411 yr No, we need to quit all this trade talk. The Bengals do not trade! And even if they did, they definitely will not trade Gresham in the middle of the season with no proven TE on the roster. This is a 2 TE offense, thus they are anxious to get Eifert back to make this offense what it is supposed to be, so NO WAY they trade Gresham.

To answer your question because it is a contract year, Gresham is a head case, and he probably doesn't figure into the Bengals plans beyond this season.
October 23, 201411 yr What would they get for him? Not much more than a 6th or 7th rounder. He will probably move on after this year, but they have no one else. Can't see them trading him even if they traded, which they rarely have. I love Eifert's upside, but I also have concerns he will ever stay healthy. He just seems like one of those snake bitten guys.
October 23, 201411 yr Author Maybe it was dictated by circumstance but I had a feeling the Bengals threw all those balls to Gresh against Indy to up any potential trade value.

In a contract year, once Tyler Eifert returns from injury… 11:14 AM - 19 Oct 2014 I get it, and it's fair. But this is not the first time the Bengals have been in rumored trade talks only for those talks to go completely unfounded. As for Gresham being a headcase, well, how many times has Marvin got rid of headcases? No, it is nice to think about, just the wrong organization to ever believe it would ever happen. Ian Rappaport is one of my favorites, but he is known for throwing things against a wall, but he is not any better than Kobe Bryant's shooting % in accuracy.
October 23, 201411 yr Maybe it was dictated by circumstance but I had a feeling the Bengals threw all those balls to Gresh against Indy to up any potential trade value. It was due to all the coverage QB pressure. Without Green, the Bengals had no one who could get free against the DB's, that allowed the DL to kill our OL. The Bengals had to go to Gresham because he was matched against an LB.

Sure it is speculation on Rapoport's part but I am sure that speculation is founded in some type of knowledge base. Not sure on Marvin and head cases but let's not confuse criminals with head cases. Criminals can be cold and calculating (in other words coachable), head cases are just that, head cases.

October 23, 201411 yr Bengals wouldn't get much value in exchange for #84. He's one of the most heavily penalized TE's & turns the ball over way too often. He's staying in Cincy until Eifert comes back, when he will go to TE #2.

October 23, 201411 yr Which makes it all the more likely it could happen if someone gets desperate for TE help. The Bengals will use him as the 2nd TE & in certain other situations because he is a better blocker than Eifert. I'm not a big fan of Gresham but he's the best the Bengals have right now. What would a trade yield in return? A 7th round pick? Gresham has more value this season to the Bengals, so they'd be better off keeping him and using him along with Eifert. On another note, I think #84 gets a TD this weekend.
