It will be an interesting game, glad you don't vote for coach of the year, and how could you even suggest anyone for the mvp when the most important game has not been played yet, however we should expect comments like that one out of some people!! May the best player that has the best District Championship game be voted tournament MVP, no matter who it may be.

 

There is no "voting" MVP....the district champion coaching staff picks MVP. Just FYI because there seems to be a lot of confusion regarding All Tournament Teams. The only ones voted on are the post season awards. District, Region and State All Tourney teams are simply the opinion of the player's own coach.

This is no surprise to most, but after watching both games I'd say Cooper was the dominant team tonight!!! Cooper handled Boone with ease & K. Smith shined big time!! Ryle beat Conner in 3 sets, but it wasn't an easy time. Conner's libero seemed to handle Ryle's serving/strong hitting very well & her serving pointed out weakness in Ryle's serve receive. If Conner had a strong hitter, they could have made this game even more interesting. Bolter was getting good passes to Atwood & Atwood was setting nicely, but there just wasn't anyone that could hit the ball to finish the play. I thought Atwood had a great setting & blocking game tonight and it was a shame Conner just couldn't finish things. IMO... Setters & Liberos don't get the respect they deserve, especially with the amount of hustle & sacrifice it takes to play position. Conner's Atwood & Bolter and Cooper's Klute & Gillespie play very important roles on their teams and deserve some credit!!! Everyone talks about the kills bringing the excitement to the game, but watching a libero dive or sprint across the floor to save a ball or a setter laying a ball up perfectly or sneaking a dump over is as equally exciting to me!!

Ryle just wasn't impressive tonight (IMO) & both A.Bush and Barber played. If the Cooper team I watched tonight shows up to play Thursday in finals, it is their 33rd trophy to lose & K. Smith gets my vote for 33rd MVP & Coach Isaac 33rd Coach of the Year!!! Go Lady Jags!!! Finish Strong!!!

I said Cooper is the team to "watch" not necessarily meaning will win it all but they could!! I think traditionally the 9th Region is associated with the same 3 teams year after year...NDA, St.Henry, & Ryle!! With that usually follows the name POY favorite coming from one of those same 3 schools!! I just feel that this year could potentially break free from that trend & in my book both Cooper & Kaity Smith should be on the top lists!!! Cooper has more than just Smith's hitting. They have other talented players that come together & play as a team to win!! They aren't playing for the individual glory or spotlight. Teams playing Cooper need to go into the game knowing that Cooper will claw, fight, scrap & never give up on the ball!! No team is going to have a perfect season & perfect games every time. Any team can be beaten on any given day no matter who they are. I'm just saying Cooper needs to be seen as a threat for NDA, St.Henry & Ryle. And given the fact Kaity Smith is a sophomore & being compared to top players that are older with more experience should also speak volumes!! While I'm at it, I'll just go ahead & throw my vote out there for Coach of the Year, too....Cooper's Michelle Isaac!!! Let the fur fly now!!!

And, for the record, I am also a Coach Isaac fan. She gets the most our of her teams and seems to get them to compete. I will still go with Ryle to win this district though.

I finally got to see another Cooper game last night, and although I think Katie Smith did really well (Boone did a good job of tracking her all night) I think the freshmen middle was also impressive! Not sure of her name, but I expect to hear more about her in the future! Some of the diving saves from Ruppel and Gillespie were amazing!! Who doesn't love a good running dive?!

 

Cooper looked good but not sure if it was truly them or the fact that Boone looked - overwhelmed? I've seen Boone play much better and I'm sure they are disappointed.

 

Only saw the first set of the Ryle/Conner game. Ryle IMO has some extremely talented players. Last night the whole team was getting really frustrated and defense was a challenge again. Conner did a good job blocking the Bush girls as well! I agree that if Conner had some heavy hitters, they could be a contender!

 

Looking forward to the Ryle/Cooper game Thursday. It's hard to beat a team 3 times but I would like to see someone other than Ryle win in this district!

 

This has been such a fun volleyball season to watch across the board. Sorry to see it head to a close....

On a side note, I'm not a fan of the voted-on post season coaches association awards in any sport - especially the All-Region teams and Region POTY. The coaches can't see everyone play, so they often turn to stats for guidance - stats that get over-inflated and padded for players who play a weaker schedule. There's no accounting for strength of opponents in the voting.

I believe the word you are looking for is "loyalty"!!! I just enjoy coaches that get results & make it fun...like Coach Fookes during basketball season.
