I think the BW-CCH game was also a beat down even though the score was more reasonable. After Wagner went out I really never had the feeling that CCH was going to win.

In a nut shell, the Dixie Cov Cath. game was Dixie's first game, a lot of two way players for Dixie 10 A.M start 95 degrees at Halftime, 2 retuned punts early, enough said. the Beechwood Dixie game complete man handling of the Tigers by Dixie, way to physical for Beechwood up front, don't think BW would ever beat Dixie if they played 10 more times, complete miss match on the line of scrimmage. Beechwood Cov Cath. Beechwood got out early, and when Wagner went down, it was all down hill for Cov. Cath. I think if Dixie played Cov Cath right now, they's beat them by a bunch. JMO. from watching all 3 games in person.

I keep hearing the CC/Dixie game was much closer. But even if you take away the two returns, CC beat them 27-7. And Dixie only put 7 points on the board. And the heat would have been bad for both teams...understand Dixie had two-way players, but the heat was still the same. And did CC score several points late in the game, when exhaustion was a factor? So I'm clearly missing something that would make me think this was a better game than it looks like on paper.

 

Not challenging because I wasn't there, just curious because when I hear the reasons, it still seems like they still handled them pretty easily. Just curious!

LOL, Dixie plays way more guys both ways, then Beechwood does, not to mention that it wasn't 95 Deg. this past Sat, was it? Again it's called reality, not what YOU want it to be. LOL

 

I guess my question would be is why does Dixie have so many kids going both ways then. And if you chose to do that and not develop other kids at the spots, then you are vulnerable to teams that do and when you have to play on days that are hot. All of those things are things you know before you go into the season, so if you want your best athletes on the field all the time, then you take that chance. It shouldn't be used as an excuse for losing big. One could say that if Dixie played all their studs both ways and the other team doesn't, then essentially Dixie should dominate the game up until the point the studs run out of gas, right?

But do we know that if they hadn't returned those punts, that they wouldn't have scored on long drives anyway? Just saying, you can't just take away things that happened in a game if they actually happened. Because if you take those things out, there are still chances that other things could have happened that didn't get the opportunity to happen. And the fact that a school the size of Dixie has that many athletes going both ways...well that's a choice to play like that. It bit them in the butt and led to a blow out.

What was the score at the end of the 3rd. My guess is that high school athletes would be able to sustain a pretty high level, even through 3 qtrs. Especially if their studs are going both ways. That would mean that even if they were dying off by the end of the third, that would mean Dixie's best athletes had been going against some of Cov Cath's best on both sides. Because Cov Cath spreads their athletes out (like most teams these days) and fills in and develops others to sustain.

 

It's kind like the turtle and the hare...you can use all your athletes everywhere and try to jump out and sustain a win or you can plan for a long game by developing other players to at least hold their own while others get a needed break. It sounds like because Dixie has chosen to play kids both ways so much, that when they get to almost any subs, they are called "second teamers". Well those kids are contributors on other teams.
