I knew that it was going to be a bad night when I went to the grill and there were no pork burgers tonight. Eeeesh.

Jim, the Colts are good, but let me say this: I saw them up close and personal two years running, and I don't think they have quite the teeth they had last season.

This game was illustrative of several things:

1. Platooning wins football games. Field position played a very large role tonight, and the two-way Tigers were gassed. Desales is an almost (not quite) complete platoon team. We counted 6 defenders that never played offense, and 5 that played sparingly on offense (Pirtle, Nord). They were fresh late and it showed.

2. The Tiger interior lineman have improved. Last year, the Desales line was consistently and literally shoving our heads into the ground. Tonight they held their own. When Bardstown wasn't fumbling, we ran the ball fairly well up the middle, and defended the run really quite well. I thought Cecil, Rogers, Amburgey, etc. were called to the mat, and I think you acquitted yourselves admirably. This was an all-out war at halftime, 17-14.

3. The Tiger special teams was flat our disgustingly bad. No reason to harp on it, it just is. Literally gave Desales the ball 4 times inside our own 30.

4. Austin Johnson is a special QB for Desales. Won that game tonight. When Ruxer went down in the 2nd qrtr., he carried the Colts. Great runner, 2 picture perfect TD passes and 1 awesome run, kicked two field goals, punting pinned us back, etc. etc. Game MVP hands down.

5. Every year I wait for a Tiger LB to step up and become "the man." Shon Livers had a little coming out party tonight.

These two teams will see each other again, and if we calm down a bit and don't simply hand them the ball inside our 30, I could see a good battle. But we had no juice in the 2nd half tonight.

CAL next in the toughest district in 2A.

Does anyone know what happened to Ruxer and how long he will be out for?

He's fine, he came back and played in the 4th qrtr. Just got his bell rung on a kick return.

Here's my view of the game. I knew it would be closer this year. They had us where they wanted us, at home, with a grudge after the 55-7 whipping last year. They had all the motivation.

We jumped out early 14-0. Should have put the game away then, but to their credit, and one score coming off a fumbled kickoff which led to a score for Bardstown, and we lost Ruxer on that play. 14-14. This is where i'm impressed with our guys. They showed their experience didn't panic and went to work. We drove the field, did settle for a fg went to the half up 17-14. Second half was all Colts. The qb keeper they ran so much in the first half that was giving us problems, our coaches did a good job of making the adjustments. We did wear them down in the 2nd half. Remember they are moving up to 3A next year, we just do a really good job of developing players for both sides of the ball, that allows us to not have to platoon players on both sides.

I'll give Bardstown their due. They have a stingy defense, they are fast. I think depth is an issue. I don't see them beating CAL.

Now we get Ft Knox Fri, which we should be able to handle, then we get a off week which we need. Then comes CAL.

Bardstown Tigers you are a CLASSY group of young men. #14 much respect for you young man, just a great bunch of kids who were very respectfully even in defeat. Go Tigers!!

That game was a good measuring stick for Bardstown. I personally think a loss the other night, especially in the fashion that it happened, was the best outcome for THAT group of kids. They took the loss which keeps them humble, they made numerous foolish mistakes like fumbles and interceptions, they did it with quite a few important role players out and not to mention they WILL see Desales again and its hard to beat a good team twice. Bardstown needs to work on some fundamentals get some other people besides Young the ball more often down the stretch of the season to preserve his body and get the rest of the team healthy. With all this being said they'll beat Desales in the region championship by at least two touchdowns.

I don't think you guys can beat CAL. That cute sign that your players ran through, that exclaimed that our winning streak was over did nothing but motivate our guys. We started the game hyped, a fumbled kickoff killed our momentum, but we came back in the second half, and took your lunch money. We can play 10 times, and I see the same result.

I haven't seen CAL play so I can't comment much on them, but just assuming that Desales is truly the number one team in 2A and having watched the game against them I don't see us not beating CAL. In 2011 their sideline wasn't that deep, I can't see them having anything special. You're crazy if you think Desales wins 10 out of 10 games Bardstown had a good 6 or 7 role players out. I ain't got to tell you though you'll see come playoff time.

You are talking a lot of smack for never seeing a team. And when you did, you saw them a few years ago...

Your team just needs to worry about CAL at the moment. I don't think you beat them.

No I wasn't talking smack at all that's why I said "i haven't seen CAL play so I can't comment much on them" also I was using Desales as a measuring stick for 2A like i said if they are "truly the number one team." But if you feel the need go ahead and enlighten me on CAL...

How many key players did you have out for the DeSales game? You will beat DeSales by at least two touchtowns in the region finals. Well we both have to make it there first, but we will see about your very bold prediction. We will see who really knows football. Cute sign!
