Mustang should be providing a good rundown soon.

I think it will be TAC. We have brought him to the dark side and he cannot stay away. :lol2:

Nice win for Brossart. Good luck in the next round of the All A.

This is the Schabell version written and published to appease the masses. I will also publish the "official" Rich Frommeyer version when I receive it. This should tide you over.

Henn to Dierig To E-Town In The Shadow of the Wire

I sat with a Brossart player parent at the game this evening, who predicted early on that he thought that this would be a 1-0 game, but he would not venture a prediction as to the winner. Good logic! Two evenly matched rivals, playing Soccer, a game of inches, but not destined to be a high-scoring event.

My history of watching high school soccer games include a plethora of overtimes, and most decided by the damned, dreaded, diabolical, dis-illusioned shootout, parmount to ending a hotly contested basketball game by shooting free-throws. He was right, I had brought two 4x6 file cards on which to jot notes. The only note that I jotted was #10 Dierig, from #12 Henn in the 79th Minute of the Game. That's actually all that you need to know.

The game was tied 0-0 at the half as both teams had their chances, but couldn't hit paydirt, and the second half was more of the same, although Jon Henn took a great "heel shot" that somehow the NCC keeper managed to thwart.

WIth the win in this 9th/10th Regional "A" Sectional the Mustangs have punched their tickets back to Elizabethtown on September 27th/28th for a chance to defend their 2013 "A" State Title. We will be on hand to broadcast those games. Our opponents in the opener at 1pm on Field #10 (the one with the pressbox) will be the winner of the Murray/Lyon County 1st/2nd Regional "A" Sectional.

I will attempt to attach a photo of Nick Dierig scoring the game-winner. I got lucky. This was the only picture I took all night.

I guess I should have gone to the track.

Here is the "official" Rich Frommeyer report. See all of the action I missed out on?

The Bishop Brossart Mustangs defeat Newport Central Catholic by a score of 1-nil tonight in the Sectional game played at Pendry Park. The defending All-A State Champion, Mustangs will head to Elizabethtown in two weeks with aspirations of winning a second straight All A State Championship.

The Mustangs started off quick in the first minute as Jacob Frommeyer sent a nice cross to a streaking Sam Parnell who just missed a fantastic opportunity for an early goal. In the 18th Minute the Mustangs were in back in business again as Jon Henn was fouled 20 yards just out on the far side and on the free kick sent a perfect ball into the box that landed in front of the keeper that no Mustang was able to get their laces on. It was cleared by the NCC defense. In the 21st minute Gabe Roberts had a shot that just missed far side.

The two biggest scares of the night came in the 30th minute when a ball being cleared by the Mustangs was blocked and an NCC player only had the Jeff Paulin to beat. Jeff Paulin made the great decision to come out of the box. Jeff met the NCC player 16 yards out making a great diving save off a absolute blast from the NCC’s forward. The ricochet was cleared by the Mustangs. Then in the 34th minute off a set piece throw in NCC had another chance at a goal as a the ball was thrown over the defense and an NCC player shot from 7 yards out that Jeff saved yet another goal to give the Mustangs a chance to win.

In the 36th minute a yellow card was issued to a Mustang player and then a few fouls were called on both teams as the Referee kept the game under control. The game was tied nil-nil at the half.

Veteran Coach, Brian Goller gave one of his emotional halftime speeches that inspired this senior laden Mustangs squad the will to win in the second half. The Mustangs came out guns blazing and put pressure on NCC’s defense. The Mustangs had shots in the 2nd and 4th minute and 5th minute that all just missed the goal or saved by NCC’s keeper. Then in the 6th minute the Mustangs had a great chance when Gabe Roberts shot was blocked by the keeper which came out to Jon Henn who sent it with his heel and it was headed for goal was cleared by a NCC defender right on the goal line. Jeff made a few more nice saves in the 19th and 21st minute which set up the thrilling ending.

The Mustangs were driving down with under one minute to play on the left side of the pitch when Jon Henn sent a fantastic through ball to Nick Dierig who made an acrobatic sliding shot (captured on film by Dave Schabell) that flew past the keeper and the Mustangs had captured the 1-0 lead.

NCC had one final corner kick in extra time and it was cleared by the Mustangs and the Brossart faithful were making hotel reservations for Elizabethtown. The Mustangs defense smothered NCC’s forward all night with their quickness and skill to get the needed shutout.

The Mustangs had 9 shots, 6 on goal, and 3 corner kicks on the night. NCC had 8 shots, 6 on goal, and 6 corner kicks. The Mustangs will catch their breath and travel to Sharp Middle School to take on Pendleton County at 8:00 p.m on Thursday. JV will play at 6:30 p.m.

Congrats Mustangs! Either way, it was going to be a win and a loss in my household. Good luck in the All A!

Solid game by both squads. Both keepers made some nice saves; the one referenced above, where the Brossart keeper came out and challenged the attacker at the 16-yard mark was clearly the defensive play of the game for BBHS. And for NCC, the defender at the back post made a crucial stop on the clever heel-ball by Henn.

Officiating was not an issue for either team, as the CR allowed a fairly physical game to be played by both teams.

I think Brossart had more opportunities, but NCC pounded on the door several times late, especially on nice throw-ins and corner kicks. Basically, Brossart executed one more play than NCC, which was enough.
