Campbell County 17 Cooper 7

Featured Replies

It was a very good game. The defenses for both teams played well. Camels started running the ball with relative ease after Keller (linebacker) and Jackson (right corner back) came out of the game with injuries. Not to take anything away from the Camels. They saw the weakness and exploited it. Cooper's pass defense was good throughout the game. The Cooper offense didn't perform tonight. We couldn't get the running game going. Kudos to the Camel D line. Our passing game wasn't much better. Still, Cooper in my opinion is a good 5A team. No shame in tonight's game for Cooper. They played hard till the very end and until the Camels pushed across a TD toward the end of the 4th quarter this game was very much either team's to win.

Actually, Keller was in game through third quarter when Camels scored with 3:38??? To go in third quarter. He moved from Mike to SS. #58 the center played Mike! Don't know the motivation of that defensive adjustment. Keller was very tough off of blocks and had made many plays! Very good player.

ACTUALLY there are TWO Kellers and one was on the bench with a fractured fibula from early- to mid-third quarter and never returned. His TWIN plays dog/monster. Sand went in for A. Keller at MLB. There's your motivation for the defensive adjustment. A. Keller was not in the game when they scored. When he left the field, Jags were up 7-0.

Got home from work and saw your reply.

First, I am so very sorry that the young man was injured and I wish him a quick recovery! Tremendous player, who left it ALL on the field Friday. He played with Emotion and Effort on every play and also Class(he was picking up guys he had just tackled all night long!) I feel you think my post was about him, but it was not in anyway.

I was trying to respond to the change in the game up to that point.

Cooper 7 Camels 0 8:20 3rd quarter

Camels ball on 50 yard line.

Until that drive Cooper's alignment was #48(keller) on def right (ss), #46(keller)at MIKE,

when the drive started Cooper made an adjustment to this:

#48 on def right(ss), #58(the center)as MIKE, and #46(at ws)on def left.

After that adjustment, #46 Keller made one tackle on a great back side pursuit, only tackle on that drive.

Camels drove the ball and had 2nd and goal on the 10yard line.

On a 7 yard run by (23)Plessinger to the 3 yard line there was a 22 player scrum trying to push the pile! Keller came in from the edge and was caught in that pile-up and ended up under ALL of them(that is when he was injured). He stayed in the game and from the 3 yard line (#5) Carroll scored to make it 7-7(after the PAT). You could see #46 Keller Hopping on one leg from edge from the previous play. He was tapping his helmet to let the sideline know he was hurt at that point and did not return.

Cooper 7- Camels 7 2:49 3rd Quarter

I feel that drive was when Momentum changed, and that was what I was trying to convey. up until then the two DEFENSES had ruled the game, after that Camels OLINE took over and (2 platoon) over (some both ways) won out.

It has been noted in many threads the +/- of these Pre-District (practice games) Friday's game shows the negative impact to Cooper. Of all the games played up by teams they seem to have been hit the hardest with injury. I have great respect for Cooper. Good Team, don't look past them to your next opponent!

Thanks for clarifying....and I get what you're saying. I honestly thought he left before the TD. Great observations.

I think we are all just used to the Kellers getting "little" (pun intended) to no respect. They play with tons of heart, have great instincts and love the game. The only thing in the minus column for them is size and that just can't be overcome. But they are juniors and I'm sure Aidan will be back next year, taking RB/QB's down and picking them back up. Hoping they use his brother at Mike in the meantime.

Cooper contained the QB the first half, with Keller in at MLB. He had about 10 tackles, a pick and a fumble recovery (fumble by the QB, btw) and he didn't even play the 3rd or 4th qtr. Camels QB had great feet, no passing ability at all. Cooper's offense was lackluster to say the least, they were given great field position time and time again by Cooper's D and couldn't punch it in. Great penetration by the Camels D though. They were quick to the ball.

Campbell County will have no trouble with Ryle, will probably beat Dixie and may challenge SK. They might be the team to beat next year, depending on who graduates off that O-line and defense.

I agree with your observation, and really liked the toughness of CC QB. I would disagree with CC beating Dixie though, Yes I think CC will beat Ryle, but having seen both CC and Dixie in person, Dixie is the better overall team, Think SK is still the team to beat though. Good post PSJ.
