Four King Crazy Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 How many High School teams are enjoying this great weather and getting the girls outside on the dirt working out? I was driving by the "Birdcage" the other day and saw a group of 30 or so girls on the field. As an Alumni Parent had to stop by and see what was going on. I was impressed with how many girls was at Voluntary workouts! It's an exciting time for girls softball with so many girls playing the game!

Lawnboy13 Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 All of NewCath's softball players are playing Soccer, XC, Volleyball, & basketball open gym.
FLASTATE2017 Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 We are starting to travel this fall again with our Travel Team and will start the Hit Center in the middle of October for condiction work. But the school has not started work outs till November with hitting.
LCDAWGS19 Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 I've got a handful of kids ready to go, but quite a few doing fall/winter sports.
Baseballinmyblood Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 I've got a handful of kids ready to go, but quite a few doing fall/winter sports. I'll be honest with you, I don't keep up with the 15th that often, but I have always been a fan of softball. I have family from Louisa so I always kept up with the baseball and football as well as softball. I am beyond shocked the coach hasn't done more than he has? Two years ago they won 24 games with I don't think any seniors and a bunch of underclassmen. They didn't make it to region but everyone seemed to chalk that up to youth. Then last season a below .500 record and again didn't make it to the region. If they had lost a bunch of seniors I'd understand but there's no excuse for a team to go backwards like that. I had the understanding this was the coach they'd wanted for years and he was suppose to be their savior. Anytime a team gets worse like that its nobody's fault but the coaching staff. I was wondering if you had any insight as to why this happened? I apologize for being so blunt but I am just really confused by it?

Baseballinmyblood Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 What team are you talking about? I'm assuming from his name "LCDAWGS19" that he is from Lawrence County?
LCDAWGS19 Posted September 14, 2014 Posted September 14, 2014 I'm assuming from his name "LCDAWGS19" that he is from Lawrence County? Was there at one time. Now at Pendleton County. While I keep tabs on LC sports and talk to the coaching staff on occasion, I won't answer that question. Coach Horn is like a brother to me, and taught me a lot of what I know about the game.

I understand loyalty. It just didn't make sense to me with the exact same roster plus a couple of additions added how a team could go backwards that fast? I thought that maybe there were outside factors involved or some other mitigating circumstances?

As far as a team going backwards, it's possible the coach scheduled better opponents the season they were under .500.
Chatty Cat Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 My daughter is moving into high school ball, 7th grader should make her school's JV team. She has played baseball and then rec fast pitch for the past five years. She recently just made her first travel squad and is playing fall ball and will be playing travel this summer. She is 12 yrs old, 5'5"-5'6" and about 110 lbs (tall, lanky, thin--kind of resembles a baby deer with her limb movement LOL). Are there bat restrictions for high school FP like there are for baseball (-3 drop, BBCOR, etc.)? I've been looking around the KHSAA website and found they use NFHS rules but I could not find an explicit specification for bats other than ASA certified. Thanks!

Most of the bat restrictions are listed in the NFHS guidelines and that is what they'll go by. On the high school level I think the drop is (-10) or (-8)? So with that being said, she could probably go with a 32 inch bat with a (-10) drop. If its too much of a difference from what she is use to then go less, but based off her size that is what I would suggest. As long as it has an ASA stamp on it then the bat is okay. Does that answer your question?
Four King Crazy Posted September 18, 2014 Author Posted September 18, 2014 I would discuss it with her travel coach that handles the hitting. If they don't have one find a hitting instructor. I would bet her travel team will have a variety of weight and length of bats. 32/22 is a pretty big bat. If she can swing it that's great. I would guess a young girl like that needs a lighter bat. That is a totally different topic.
RCC9 Posted November 13, 2014 Posted November 13, 2014 After a very successful fall workout season, the Lady Birds have taken to the new fitness center and are tearing it up! We have about 20 girls participating, led by Shelby Graybill (Pictured). That's 325lbs for those of you that don't have enough fingers and toes! Very impressive! Keep working hard Birds!
