Raceland goes to Boyd Co and puts up 24 points on the first 3 drives and rolls to an easy victory.

Bittersweet to play in Cannonsburg. Boyd has decided not to renew our series. So we won't be on that field anymore.

On to the next!

Maybe Boyd will choose to play bigger schools and get beat. It can't look to good to be getting beat by all these smaller schools. Why can't a school the size of Boyd do any better than they are?

Also, how are they pretty good in Baseball but not football? What's that about?

I honestly can't answer the question. But my thoughts are that there is lack of interest/participation. It's one of the largest schools in the area so I'm sure there is good potential walking the halls. I remember hearing in the past that some of the better coaches they've had were having a hard time getting kids to come out and play.

That's the reason why I love the Ashland Ironton rivials. I feel Ironton and Ashland use to be how it was when Boyd use to have our number then the next year we had ours. They need to do something or your just going to keep seeing them get romped.

But to the young rams looks like ram football is there to stay.

Also, how are they pretty good in Baseball but not football? What's that about?

LR, At one time Raceland was really good in basketball, especially in the 60's, had a few play college ball and at least three that I know that went to D1 Schools, one in the SEC-Auburn. Raceland still had a good Football program but a lot of emphasis was put on Bassketall, some good athletes didn't play football, concentrating on basketball - baseball.

Why I am saying that about Raceland is bc Boyd Co. in the late 60's, especially 70's were all football. I can still remember some of those Boyd / Ashland games - no doubt were THE Game of the area to see every season. With legendary coaches Tom Scott (BC) and Herb Conley (APB) both were area and State powers. What I am getting at is that just as an outsider, I have heard that all most of the people care a lot about at Boyd is baseball. So, not sure of course but maybe all emphasis by the school / parents is on Baseball, and they do have an outstanding baseball program.

I do absolutely agree with others in that a school the size of Boyd Co., there is No Reason not to have competitive teams in All sport.

Another possibility, and I have no idea if it exist or not, is I have to wonder if Boyd has the same type problem as Greenup Co has had for years and years....a few people and/or sections of the county school system control everything and eventually it becomes ALL about power between the adults and the kids are the ones paying the price. Again, I have no idea what the problems, if any, are at BCHS are and I hope they can get a strong football program back again.

On to the next!

That's right. Heard the next may be Johnson Central. Bring it.

Might not win every year, but we sure won't let them have it easy. Johnson Central has a good team year in and year out. It would be a very interesting game for both teams. I want to see it.

I think we need to find teams and play teams that we will find in the playoffs. Not going to run into to many teams like JC.The smaller faster teams always seems to get us.Raceland does not need to be playing Boyd Co they get nothing out of it,East Carter,Greenup. These teams do not help us get better.I would be fine going into the playoffs at 6 and 4 and knowing we played some good football teams than a bunch of cream puffs.Raceland needs to start challenging their kids more and stop putting together a schedule that keeps mom and pop happy,I really believe that the kids want to be challenged.

Wheelersburg

Portsmouth

Portsmouth West

VALLEY

These teams are close and fine football teams

I agree with you in the aspect if playing harder teams. But you must have weeks like Greenup, Boyd, and East, to work in things and to allow injuries to heal. If we play a team like Ironton or Ashland EVERY week, you start to limit your players. It's also good to, fortunately for Raceland, to play a inferior district like Pikeville's the first round. It allows injuries to heal and allows a team to put in new wrinkles and fix the ones that have accumulated over a series of games. I understand where you are coming from. But every team needs a week like Greenup or Boyd. No offense to those teams.

One thing I wish we could change is to put Ashland back up to the first game instead of East, then get rid of East and put maybe Johnson Central the second game or a team like Wheelersburg or Valley. We will not drop Greenup unless they refuse to play us. I just don't see it. Not to mention, starting in 2015, we are starting to play Russell again rather than Ironton. I like the Russell game instead of ironton due to 1) the crowd turnout 2) it's a rivalry 3) because it's a great game right before playoffs. Johnson Central would be a great addition to our upcoming schedule, but I believe we should keep Greenup on it.
