CCH gives Trinity the win with an own goal about 3 minutes into the game and that was the only score in the game. Long throw in by Trinity towards the CCH goal is headed in by a CCH center back, putting the Colonels in an early hole. CovCath responded well and should have been even at half but an easy score on an open goal was missed late in the half. It could have been walked right into the goal but that's how it goes. Really poor technique and composure.

As the second half wore on, CCH got more and more of the play and Trinity was on their heels much of the half. Trinity had some good chances as well of course but all were turned back by a good CCH defensive effort. Mr. Soccer (Stockton) was stuffed by Sam Romes on a PK and later received a yellow card on a hard, reckless foul that should have been his second yellow. If he's a D1 player, he was physically dominated by Parker Kenney most of the night. He was good but nothing special.

CCH missed another easy knock in goal with about 10 mins remaining that should have tied it. In both cases, the goals were missed by reserve players due to lack of technical ability. The Colonels played well for most of the game and gave Trinity all they wanted and then some. A lot of Colonels had good games so no sense naming just a couple. Good effort overall. If Trinity is #1 then CCH is right there as they could have easily walked out of there with a victory. Let's hope we see them again.

Sounds like Trnity was very fortunate to win.

Nice job CCH... represented Northern KY well.

IMO ........CCH had more point blank chances than Trinity, but Trinity had more shots on goal, but from 15 to 20 yards out......

First half, I give Trinity possession control at 60/40 but second half was CCH possession 70/30........

I told myself going in that a one or two goal loss would still feel ok........but on an own goal and missed chances, left me feeling empty inside and needing a hug.

......AR on fans side was very unmotivated and seems to want to be someplace else...

.....lastly...big thanks to the Trinity faithful for feeding the kids. I realize that CCH dropped the ball on this when you visited us last year, but things are more together and we won't forget next year.....

Did they give the boys Chick-Fil-A?

Not sure I'd say Trinity was fortunate as they had chances and CCH had chances as well. Either team could have won the game really. To lose on an own goal and miss a couple chances that were just easy knock in goals is disappointing. It's good to get a look at Trinity but I was not overly impressed. I think we'll see better when we face St. X and maybe a couple others.

As for overall technical ability of the team as stated on another thread, I thought CCH had the better midfield overall. Stockton was good but smallish and was mostly negated by Kenney. The forwards of both teams I'd rate equal in that respect and both groups played well. CCH's forwards held the ball and distributed better. Trinity's forwards looked more dangerous from distance. Defensively, I'd say Trinity's back four as a group were more technical but not overly fast and CCH's forwards exposed them several times. They were lucky to get out with a clean sheet and were helped by a few very nice saves by their keeper. I think CCH's center back was the best defender in the game.

Overall I think CCH was slightly faster and more athletic.

Rather than halfs, I'd give the possession nod to the Colonels the last three quarters. They started to take control midway through the first half.

A Trinity faithful sent updated me this morning and said it was a great match to watch.

He said cch's mids really were all they were touted as with #16 winning majority of 50-50 balls and #11 controlling flow and distributing. He still felt Trinity had better overall ball skill but CCH's team effort from front to back was higher than Trinity's. Stated the score could have easily been 2-0 Trinity to 2-0 CCH and any combination in between.

trinity missed several shots with players going on goal and one of them resulted in a PK that was missed due to a great save by the CCH keeper. Also stated only distance threat from CCH was off a couple if directs taken by 7 and 11 with one just tipped over by the trinity keeper.

The Trinity coach was overheard giving CR some feedback that they were sure would result in a card. Not sure what was said though.

Last thing he stated was they were expecting CCH to fold due to lack of subbing the mids much and when 12 went down he felt the tied would turn and just kept waiting but CCH's endurance really played a major part.

Just a shame the result is due to an own goal.

Well said.......can't argue....

To the Trinity faithful.............if you had to rank CCH against the teams you have played and seen so far......since you have played and seen a more geographically diverse set of opponents.......where would you rank them ?

#16 is Parker Kenney and yes, he won most of the 50-50 balls and #11 is Bryce Day and once he settled in he did a good job controlling the midfield and distributing. Both played well. #12 is Joe Schuh and he was at right mid and he did get injured in the second half. It was his sub that missed one of the easy goals. On the PK, the Trinity player was not going to goal really. He beat the CCH left back and was fouled on the far edge of the box. Silly, lazy foul.

Not sure what the Trinity coach could have been complaining about as the ref was far from favoring CCH. He let an intentional handball go in the first half by Stockton that stopped a CCH break and should have been a yellow. Stockton would have been ejected later in the game after his rough tackle on Rob Lilly (took him out of the game too I think). Borderline straight red.

CCH does need to pull the trigger more from distance and yes, they were better conditioned and as the game wore on, it was Trinity that began to tire I thought.
