Geno's Call To Mo'Ne Davis Draws NCAA Penalty

Featured Replies

Me too. I saw one of 13 girls to ever play and one who took center stage for her team. Good for her.

A team that beat Delaware and Tennessee. Two baseball powerhouses. A lot of hype for nothing. The desire for America to have a feel good story is sickening at this point. Let's pump up a little girl who can play with boys. Yay!!

Sickening.

Only 13 girls have ever played and she beat 2 other teams that were there though. I don't see what it's hurting that people congratulate her. Of the 13 other girls, I'd doubt that as many as her put up the kind of performance and numbers that she did, so I'm not understanding why it's bad that people congratulate her for her achievements.

People can, just not Division 1 coaches during the offseason dead period. Probably be different if it wasn't known that she is an accomplished basketball player(against girls) and that her dream destination is to play for UConn. That changes the game even though Geno wants to play coy and act like he would have been calling her anyways.

I'm still not getting it though. She publicly stated her dream was to play for Geno's program. It's not like she's going to abandon that dream because he didn't call her.

UConn's women's program isn't to the point they need to resort to giving pat on the back calls to middle schoolers in hopes they play for them.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that if Geno wanted her to play for him, that the time for him to seriously consider that and make the final call is many years away.

He can have his pick of anyone he wants, why does he have to resort to calling middle schoolers that he don't know will pan out to say "congrats"?

Because no one would have told him to call her without them knowing she wants to play for UConn. What was the harm in Coach K telling a kid after a game he played a great game? I'll tell you the harm, it was at a time when coaches can't talk to prospective athletes. Those are the rules. Point blank. If he was so emotionally caught up in wanting to congratulate her he should have called the NCAA and asked if he can call a prospective athlete and say congrats. Did any other Division 1 coaches call her to say congrats? Why only Geno?

Because she only named Geno and his program and she's still a little girl and Geno's decision to call her was like playing Pick 4 in the daily lottery. He doesn't have a clue if she's going to be good enough to play for him or not. I wouldn't care if it were Pat Summit, Matthew Mitchell, or Larry Brown. Any of those are too smart to know that evaluating middle school talents isn't there game when they can have the seniors of their choice come to their program. They were doing it to flatter her and tell her congratulations on a job well done. That's it. Do you really think that's what Geno had to do if he wanted her to come play for UConn?

It doesn't matter. None of that matters. It's against the rules. Pretty cut and dry for me.

And I guarantee if she ends up good enough to play for UConn one day she'll say it was her dream school and Geno is the only one who called me when I was playing with the boys.

I bet Geno doesn't give a flip that he got a call from the NCAA about this. If anything he probably smirked over the fact that he brought UConn women's basketball to a point where this is news.

Put me in the camp that doesn't understand why he needed to call her and congratulate her. Congratulate her for what? She lost.

I think she's the first girl pitcher ever to get a victory in LLWS play. I agree she was a feel good story, but it is pretty cool being the first ever.

The scoreboard does not define who you are...

And 18th Place trophies are one of the big problems with Today's Youth....
