This is correct. There can be two assists on a goal. Bang-Bang play with a couple one-touch passes or maybe a corner kick that is played into the box..........headed by one player to another play who puts it in the net. Two assists on one goal.

So Covcath had a play earlier this year. Ballow crosses to Litzler who rolls the ball toward goal (probably going in), Lilly comes in and puts it away for the goal. Assist Litzer, Ballow, or both? Or, neither?

I remember the play and would say both.

Yes, but I think the situations like that are pretty rare. What you get more of in high school soccer is something like:

Billy boots the ball down the field from his defensive spot..........at some point in the near future after the ball has bounced around a bit, Johnny scores a goal. Billy's mom, who is keeping the all-important stats for the team, records an assist for Billy. Upon returning home, she immediately logs onto bluegrasspreps.com and tells everyone that Billy had yet another assist.

Sounds like Billy's mom might also be inclined to give an assist on an own goal if the opportunity presented itself.

Makes sense, I am going to quit digging then.

I don't know Billy or his mom. :)

Just posted up what it looked like from my vantage point, responding to colcru13's post about assists.

Congrats to St H......Go NKY Soccer.

Have found the Lex Cath fans to be very classy.......Hopefully, you did also.

Lex Cath fans were very cordial and friendly.

Shout out to Cru goal keeper Tanner Koking and the Defenders.

Nice team effort. Working out the kinks.

By no means was I insinuating that you are anything like Billy's mom. :)

Yes, she might be at that. I am only trying to show that stats are only as good as the person writing them down.

Glad to see I started such a great conversation about what exactly an assist is........ And I don't know Billy or his mom either.

We seem to be able to take any thread and let's say.... Drift off topic a bit!!!

Sorry, I guess that this was my fault. Didn't mean to steer it off kilter, but I think that we are all better people now that we have had this discussion. Not sure that there is any real consensus on this other than Billy's Mom is not much of a statistician.
