What's happening in Kentucky High School Cross Country right now?

If you are a CC fan, please post here.

Ryle Invitational was this past weekend. St. Ursaline Dominated the girls, winning both Varsity and JV. Saint Henry came in Third in both Varsity and JV with two of their top runners out with injury.

At the Ryle meet on the boys side, Eric Baugh (Villa) posted a 15:38 ish time and Ethan Shuley (Highlands) posted a 15:45. Both were outstanding times for this early in the season. These two will both have incredible seasons and both will be among the all time bests in NKY before they complete their high school careers.

What happened this weekend in Kentucky cross country? Which teams and runners did well?

It wasn't as hot as Ryle but the course was running slow. Times no some seem to be slower than normal.

Grant County Invitational

Saint Henry Girls went to Run for the Gold in Elizabethtown. Placed third varsity and second for JV. Davies County took first for varsity and Sacred Heart took second for Varsity. Davies County looked strong, went 1,2,3 in JV. Night race, fast, flat course.

Welcome to BGP, Yedboy!

Cru girls at full strength yet?

Nice finish for Highlands! 1, 4, 7, and 8! Shuley a minute ahead of the pack!

Thanks! The Cru did not have Blades back for Elizabethtown and it looks like Epplen is still not at full strength. Both practiced last night so I think they should be ready for Rumble in the Jungle this weekend in Oldham. The rest of the team is looking good.

Updates from this weekend?

Good field of competition at the Horse Park today at the Franklin Co. Invitational for the boys' varsity. Top 30 (who were recognized) were 17:34 and below. Winner in the upper 15:00s was from Tippecanoe out of Ohio. They won the varsity race as a team as well.

Great weather at the Horse Park this weekend. Wolken from Mercy won the girls race in a sub 19:00 time. St. Henry Girls ran well and placed third. Hentz was back and she ran 19:30. Svec was out with injury, but the rest of the runners had great times. Blades was back and ran the JV race and won it overall. She will be back on varsity next week after nursing an injury.

On the boys side, the top NKY performers are Shuley from Highlands and Baugh from Villa. Shuley was the top KY finisher at the Trinity meet on Saturday, the top regular season XC meet in the state. Baugh's time was off from what he usually runs, which makes me think something might have been wrong, because Eric is very consistent. Eric beat Ethan in a the Ryle meet week one. These are 2 very special NKY runners and great young men.

As a team, Cooper is far and away the best boys team in NKY with some really quality young men leading them in Zach Stewart, Brady Baker, the Greenhalgh triplets, and the Vandermosten young man. Although certainly not the favorite these guys have a chance to pull a huge upset and knock off Trinity and St. X for the state title this year. Cooper currently has 3 guys who are top 20 in the state. Much will depend on how their 4 and 5 guys score at state. I believe they are all seniors and would love to see them pull it off.

A couple of other guys from NKY who have posted really outstanding times this year are Chris Loos from Brossart (Chris had a really good sophomore year and now as senior posted a great time last week at the Campbell County Championships) and Justin Reed from Ryle, whose running seems to have taken a giant step forward.

I don't follow the girls as closely, so I would assume the St. Henry and Highlands will both be favorites to repeat, but things that jump out at me when looking at times:

Jensen Bales: Jensen from Ryle was a great runner when she was younger and for whatever reason seemed to struggle a bit the past few years (she may have been hurt or injured for all I know); however, she certainly appears have returned to form and posted a great time (sub 19 minute 5K) last week at the Bluegrass Meet in Lexington.

Renee Svec: Continues to lead the St. Henry Girls and is one of the top 20 runners in the state so far.

Jennah Flarity: Jennah is a senor from Campbell County. Jennah is impressive as she seems to just get better each year, which is not always true in girls XC.

Sophia Deliso: Have no idea who this 8th grader is for SK, but she is knocking the ball out of park and posting really good times early in the season. She ran a 19:14 at Mason County, which I remember to not be that fast of a course.

Just a few thoughts from a million miles away.

Thanks for the updates! Keep the CC news coming.

Saint Henry race was this past weekend at Idlewild. Good Showcase of Northern Kentucky talent. Cooper won the boys easily, they should be really strong down state. St. Henry won the girls followed by Simon Kenton. Saint Henry is back to full strength and running strong. Flairty won the girls for Campbell County and looked really strong. Sloppy course and slow times. Saint Henry boys are fighting thorough some injuries and illnesses and lost to Bishop Broshart. Should be a good matchup down state between BB and SH. Teams look pretty even.
