A friend I work with told me about a couple of Christian rock bands that he had heard and told me to give them a listen, so I did. This one is pretty solid, it hit #1 on Billboard's Christian Music chart in 2010, from Sanctus Real - "Lead Me".

here's another, Hillsong United - "Yours Forever".

Here's an unusual and interesting Australian folkie dude named Xavier Rudd who's a one man show, multi-instrumentalist and vocalitst, and known as well for playing multiple dideridoos on stage, as well as guitar and drums.

A dideridoo is a wooden wind instrument developed by indigenous Australians of northern Australia around 1500 years ago.

His vocal tone is similar to that of Ben Harper.

I caught his act at the Madison Theatre in Covington in 2007.

The night before that, he played an in-studio performance at WNKU studios.

I'm friends with one of the DJ's so she took me behind the scenes before the show to meet him where we found him in the middle of his pre-show ritual of standing on his head in some sort of meditative state. We decided to forego a proper meeting to avoid interfering him.

An example of Xavier Rudd doing his one man thing including drums...

It had slipped my mind that Ian Gillan was with them for a while.

Other than the obvious Deep Purple songs like Smoke on the Water, Highway Star, Perfect Strangers (My favorite of theirs), Hush, & Woman from Tokyo, I admittedly am not too well versed with them. Strangely they're one classic band that I never spent enough time with to get to know better. Not sure why.

In all reality my introduction to Ian Gillan came at a young age when obsessing over "Jesus Christ Superstar". Really love that musical and would try like crazy to learn every word and sing along.

Great song to play on a Sunday morning, coffee in hand, great instrumental in middle of song.
