Newport 2014/2015

Featured Replies

I have just seen Newport more than most others on this site and know what they are capable of.

I don't think they can compete with or beat a team like Newcath, Covcath, Holmes, or Dixie, but they will be better than most realize. (Yes I know this is said virtually every year)

You can say this when they get better each year. I think they were better last year than many thought they would be.

Really depends on their schedule, is that ok to say Walter?

It will likely come down to having to beat St. Henry and NCC to get thru the All-A and then with a seeded district it will likely be Newport and Highlands again for the advancement to the Region and to meet NCC in the District final. Whether the can take either of those steps I'm not sure. Snapp is capable of carrying the load offensively but defense might be the problem. They won't have the inside game to match NCC but more importantly Highlands took it to them inside in the district game last year. They will have to not let that happen this year. Where are Districts this year? (it was at NCC last year and Highlands the year before).

Isn't at Newport this year? I believe it is. Can anyone confirm?

That may be true. It was at Newport when Newport won the 9th Region because Newport lost the District final to NCC by alot on their home floor.

District this year is at Newport

I like this team and its potential. They will be tough in the 9th Region this season. I saw them play Nicholas County last season in the first round of the Bracken County tournment. It was a shoot out between Snapp (31 points) and Nicholas' Newton (35). Lost 84-81 but Snapp is a player that can score from anywhere on the court. His range seemed like it was out to mid-court. Price and Covington make this team dangerous in 2014-15.

Ethan is a slight of build 6'1. He is extremely crafty with the ball. Lots of fakes. Can pull up, on the move, from just about anywhere and hit the shot. He is not going to win many sprints in track and no one will be expecting him to dunk on a break away. He has an extremely high basketball IQ.

This is a good description. If he played for one of the big 3 teams people would rank him higher than they do.

But if he played for one of the big 3 teams he might be the 3rd or 4th scoring option and expected to do other things that would not bring any notice.

It can be tough to be THE scoring option but it all comes with the territory. If you saw the All-A final against NCC they concentrated on stopping him and that was it for Newport. District game against Highlands he was firing away but you can only make so many 30 footers and Newport could not hang with them.
