July 17, 201412 yr Was it noted anywhere who he beat out for this award ? Not that I am aware of. I'd love to know who else was considered.
July 17, 201412 yr I get why he was considered for and won the award, but in my opinion someone like Eric LeGrand would be more deserving. He has shown tremendous courage facing his battle with paralysis. I'm pretty sure that he hasn't previously been given the award. Or perhaps the Marine whom the NCAA tried to keep out of football because he played in some intramural type games on base. With all the initial talk of previously negiotated reality shows, etc. I'm somewhat skepitical that Sam's decision to "come out" was about courage as much as it was as an opportunity to cash in and pretty much guarentee that he would get drafted.
