July 3, 201412 yr Author If all these big venues are your idea of a good concert setting, I feel very, very sorry for you. I don't care to see a show at any of these places. Zero intimacy. Well the problem is the more intimate venues do not hold enough people for the more popular acts. I'd probably enjoy a Reds /Cardinals game at Whitiker Bank Field more than I would at GABP but it ain't going to happen. Maybe I would want to see Toby Keith at the Madison Theater but it is going to be at Riverbend. You can debate that the more popular concerts are not the "best" concerts but the larger venues will have more people attending them.
July 5, 201412 yr One of the best venues I've been to is Belterra, in Vevay, Indiana. It's large enough to attract some quality shows but still small enough to make it feel more...intimate. Quality concert venue. I've seen a number of good shows there. Cheap Trick was especially good there.

Charleston Civic Center 8. Riverbend 9. Big Sandy Superstore Arena I'm probably forgetting a venue or two... The Palace is a great place to see a show. I'll be attending two Avett Brothers shows there this October and I couldn't be more excited. I'll be checking our Fraze (also for an Avett Brothers show) next month and then US Bank Arena in October for Pearl Jam. Each of the places above has some good things.... Except Big Sandy. That venue was a dump with poor acoustics. I'll never willingly attend a show there again. Riverbend is a decent enough place to see a show, but the security is ridiculous.

The East Ky Expo Center is still open, but they basically only book whatever pop country act is passing through on their way to another city. I don't think they even try to book rock shows these days, which is a huge disappointment for me.
