Where Are the Hardest Places to Live in the U.S.? EKY Counties Make List

Featured Replies

I doubt it would ever happen in my lifetime but would love for the state to begin thinking outside of the box and take advantage of our natural resources much more than we have in the past. Think of the tourism $ that could be gained by creating a massive lake is SE KY (think Cumberland X3 or 5x). Not only would we gain short term jobs in the creation of the project and lodge(s) but there would be longer term employment in the service industries and those tied directly to the park.

You been reading Harry Caudill lately?

I've read all of his stuff. I wish more folks would read his stuff.

Clay County is the only place I've ever heard of where a preacher starts a church, raises money to build a new Church House from the parishioners and then sells the church and keeps the money then just moves on.

I don't know if Cumberland 3x or 5x is possible anywhere in that area. Cumberland has over 1000 miles of shoreline. Maybe they could build a lake over there somewhere but it will not approach the size of Cumberland...there is already a nice lake in Laurel County.

Outdoor adventure tourism would be the better option, much like what is available in the Smokey Mountains. Add ATV Trails/Parks, Zip Lines, Confidence Courses, Hiking Trails all with a nice Lodge as the center piece.

And I thought I had it tough having to memorize Maryland's 23 counties as a kid.

I had it easy. Only 3 counties in Delaware to memorize
