Indian is probably my favorite, but Vietnamese, Korean and Thai are high on the list.

June 26, 201412 yr I LOVE good, flavorful ethnic food. Indian is probably my favorite, but Vietnamese, Korean and Thai are high on the list.I love Indian food but for some reason I cannot eat it in the evening without being sick later that night - so I eat it mostly at lunch. No matter how hot Thai food is, it never disagrees with my system no matter how late I eat. I live in an area heavily populated with Asians, so some of the best restaurants in the DC area are within 5 miles of my home. There are Thai, Indian, Vietnamese, Korean, and even a Burmese restaurant in the neighborhood. I have also been able to eat some authentic homemade Indian dishes. Homemade Hyderbad style Chicken Biryani is hard to top. I got a late start with ethnic foods - I didn't eat my first decent Chinese meal until I enrolled at UK, and it was nothing special. So, I am making up for lost time. :lol2:

My introduction to shrimp and grits was in Jackson, Mississippi about five years ago. With the cuts to military spending, there is a good chance that I will be changing jobs in the next few months. I would love to move back to the deep south. I miss the low cost of living and cheap, fresh seafood.

Didn't eat anything approaching real Chinese food until a trip to Boston in my teens. One of the (very few) things I miss about where I grew up - Baltimore suburbs - is the amazing variety of ethnic foods and festivals. We will be making our annual pilgrimage to the Panegyri Greek festival in Cincinnati this weekend. That decadent pastry called Galaktoboureko - think baklava on steroids - is worth the trip all by itself.

Often make some thrown-together version of etoufee or jambalaya.

That decadent pastry called Galaktoboureko - think baklava on steroids - is worth the trip all by itself. A Chinese guy opened a restaurant in my home town when I was in high school. I doubt that he had ever cooked before. The sweet and sour chicken sauce appeared to be canned fruit cocktail (I recognized the gooseberries) with some red food coloring. Maybe it was the same owner. I had my first really good Chinese food in Canada, on a trip along the north shore of Lake Superior when I was 23. I have made a couple of trips to the Kent Island for the crab cakes at Kentmorr Restaurant and Crab House - Kent Island, MarylandKentmorr Restaurant and Crab House. I don't think that I have tried Galaktoboureko but I like baklava. I love chicken kabobs and Shawarma too. There is a regional chain of Persian kabob houses called Moby Dick that has the best pitas that I have ever eaten. They are always hot and fresh from the oven. (The owners' first restaurant was opened in a former seafood restaurant and "Moby Dick" sounded like a famous restaurant in Tehran, so they decided to keep the name.)
