Sounded like a good game!

They won't and to be honest, I don't think Clay and North mind very much. I think that these 2 schools look at the situation as one where they would hate to use that many games playing district schools that can be used to play more difficult opponents. North had a schedule in the toughest 15-20% of the state, but that wouldn't have been the case if they had to play that many district games.

 

I disagree. As 51513 said, what if they draw each other in the first game sometime when they are clearly 1 & 2? The district can also schedule a one game round robin in the regular season which only ties up 4 games. If they schedule home & home then that's still just eight games out of 27...Plenty room to design your schedule any way you would like. I might be PIG HEADED but there is NO WAY you can fairly rationalize a blind draw to me. A blind draw is best suited for horsed shoe tournaments an such, not basketball! I'll say it again. It's feathered and fries up golden brown. OINK!

There were some interesting happenings that have not been brought up. The technical foul called on North's Allen. All he said to the ref was "He is holding my jersey" This was at the end of the 3rd quarter North up by 8 or 9. Start the 4th up by 2. If I'm not mistaken.

Late in the 4th under 2 minutes to play North is called for an intentional foul. The parent of the Clay player flipped a table onto the court and ran onto the court. Police had it under control, he was escorted from the gym. No call. Could this have also been a technical on Clay? What is the ruling on this? Jones for Clay is a Man on the boards, North could not stop him.

I know it sounds like I'm begging for a call or saying the refs took the game, I'm not. Just some interesting happenings that have not been brought up.

With all of this said, It was a great game and great atmosphere. This is what High School Basketball in Kentucky is all about. Good luck to both teams in the 13th Region Tournament.

After reviewing the tape it looks like this...As the Clay parent was going to get pop-corn a North parent tipped him and gave him a shove which resulted in the poor guy falling over the table and sliding on to the floor where he was quickly apprehended and escorted out of the gym. So actually, the technical should have been called on North Laurel. Thing is, the refs didn't see any of it. That's why no technical was called. Thank You

Excellent point. This has happened numerous times to Hazard and PCC and neither is happy about it, and you really cannot blame them as they were normally the 2 best teams in their district.

 

I personally prefer seeding as I think you should reward regular season performance.

 

BTW, who made the all tournament team? I thought I heard on the NL side that Allen, Carson, Asher and Howard made it but was not sure.

Before this turns into another 'your fans/parents are horrible and did this' etc, are you sure that a NL parent shoved the poor guy over a table? I really would like to see this video and I could probably tell you if it were a North Laurel parent before one can make that statement as fact.

 

On another note, ... I think the closeness of this game and their first game, both at Clay County, indicates that both teams were very evenly matched. I would love to see them on a neutral court and would expect nothing short of yet another barnburner! These 2 have had terrific games both times they met this season!

I talked woth one of the officials that worked the game, he said that the game was very competitive and the game was for anyone to win as the swing had went back and forth all night. I know the officials have a very hard and somewhat unforgiving but how would the teams play the game, if we did not have them. I talked with several people that attended the game and all of the true basketball people said the game was officiated very fairly and it had nothing to do with the outcome of the game. As far as the offcial calling a T on Clay when I ask him about it there is nothing in the rules that call for the offcials to asess a Technical Foul to a home team or a visiting team if a fan enters the floor. I would like to see the game and wish both of the teams luck next week.
