Who do you have and why?

My Top 5:

 

1. Knott County Central -

The favorites until someone knocks them off. Seems they've added some kids over the summer, with Cordia sniper Austin Combs being the biggest addition.

 

2. Perry County Central -

Justin Johnson is gone, but Braxton Beverly returns. Damon Tobler and Nahim Lee will need to step into even bigger roles, but you'd think they have the talent to do so.

 

3. Cordia -

Lots will depend on who stays and who goes, but for now, we'll assume they have all of their underclassmen aside from Combs and Cornett back next year and slot them here for now.

 

4. Hazard -

Lost a lot to graduation, and will really miss Hudson and Hollan, but with a coach like Big Al, I won't count them out. How much guys like Wells, Hardy, Johnson, Roberts and other returnees can step up will determine how far they can go.

 

5. Buckhorn -

Hoskins, Cooper, Crank, Cole, Boggs, and Estep will form a solid core. Rumor has it that junior guard James Blair has transferred to Perry County Central, which hurts the Wildcats.

If Buckhorn plays their cards right they could be in the regional tournament. They are gonna be a nightmare for anyone.

As for the rest, I'd think that the following teams in the next tier (alphabetically):

 

Breathitt County, Estill County, Leslie County, Letcher Central, and Wolfe County.

Wolfe will be good.

 

Breathitt could be good. They lost a lot from last year, looking for a new head coach and lost Braxton Whitmore to Perry Central.

 

Not sure on Leslie County.

 

Letcher Central should be Letcher Central.

 

Estill County will be down. Engineers return just 2 starters from last season. Estill County does have a very bright future ahead of them.

Last I saw Cordia only has 3-5 players.

Yeah I think Cordia only has 3 players left from last years roster. And haven't heard of any coming in.

Wolfe will be good.

Expect Knott to use 10 players early in the season. Against most teams in the district I would predict the starters to only play the first and third quarter. However, you might see two starters remain on the floor so the reserves can play with plenty of continuity. It really doesn't matter who starts in these games because the fifth starter's playing time will just about be equal between Shrum and Combs. Keeping this in mind I would expect Hall, C. Cornett, Christon, Shrum, and Justice to start. Whether Andrew or Austin starts the other will be the first reserve off the bench. I see Justin Cornett spelling the inside players, along with Clay Nickles. I also see freshman Isaac Caudill filliing in for Christon and Chance. I also expect Dalton Cornett to fill in at one of the guards to pose as another three point threat.

 

I am hearing that KCC is going to be traveling to the Beach Ball Classic the day after Christmas.

What kind of player is Whitmore and how will he fit in at Perry Central next season?

Very athletic forward, who loves to run the floor. Whitmore has good size too which will help on the defensive end. PCC also picked up James Blair from Buckhorn whom was second in scoring for the Wildcats last season. Two soild additions for PCC this upcoming season.

What cards, blinds man bluff? The 54th is still seeded as far as I know so hard to play your cards right in the dark. I do agree with you on the other hand that Buckhorn will be a tough out, John Noble does wonders with cards he has been delt over the years.

When did the 54th start seeding? They did have a blind draw for as long as I can remember.

 

Coach Noble is a fantastic coach and one of the nicest people you'll ever meet. I will be shocked if Buckhorn isn't in the regional tournament with what they have returning. The player that transferred to PCC will be missed but I still think that Buckhorn ends up in the regional tournament.

54th is blind draw
