May 7, 201412 yr Favorite scene in the movie... ^ Apparently that scene was written into the script by Mel Brooks soon after moving to California from New York. After putting down money on his house, he was very low on money seeing as his previous two movies, The Producers and The Twelve Chairs, had not given him much return on his investments. So Brooks, his wife, and his infant son were all having to live on a diet purchased with Brook's Warner Brothers per diem, and as a result, Brooks and his wife Anne Bancroft were dining largely on canned beans. The result inspired the scene from Blazing Saddles.
