That's good news, and prolly why the talk of drafting at QB. I'm on record liking Bortles early if he's available and Carr/Murray/Metzenberger later. I seem to recall Dalton being the 'down to earth' guy who was grateful for a chance to play in the NFL. Now he thinks he's Chad- face of the franchise talk (AJ Green says 'hi') and wants paid like he's a Manning brother or Brady? Win something before you try to get paid.

 

Even though I don't think the Bengals should give him the money he is asking for, he is not dumb for asking for it. Yes he has failed in the playoffs, but he also has many other numbers that he can rely on. His numbers for his first three seasons are some of the best numbers for any QB ever for their first three years, and he has managed to take the team to the playoffs in his first three years, which many QB's can't say either. Even Peyton Manning didn't do well or win a playoff game his first few years. Obviously he is no Peyton Manning, but he has the numbers to suggest trying to at least ask for that big pay day. So nothing wrong with him trying to get that money, and nothing wrong with the Bengals not giving it to him lol.

Let's face it, contracts in the NFL aren't worth the paper they're written on. I mean, if they were, you probably wouldn't be seeing guys ask for so much money guaranteed up front. I have no problem with him asking for it, because it seems like (unlike any other sport) once the contract is signed, it's the owners' side who holds all the power.

Not a chance. There isn't a QB in this draft that will be better than Dalton will this coming season. Wouldn't be worth it. By the time the guy they draft is ready to make a real impact, other guys will be a couple years older and the window of opportunity will have closed IMO.

 

Russel Wilson in his second year disagrees. Kaep in his 2nd year but 1st as a starter also disagrees. The talent is already on the roster. 1st and 2nd year guys can compete and Dalton getting his raise will actually start the decline b/c the roster will lose guys. Dalton's contract is the window closer.

I read what you said perfectly clear. It's just not the case anymore. Younger QB's that go to loaded rosters have an easy time competing. Was Russel Wilson an old vet last year? What about he and Kaepernick the year before? Were either of those guys top 10 picks? The Bengals could compete and compete in a big way if they draft Bridgewater and he works out. Plus he'd be a ton cheaper next year and the 3 years after that than Dalton which would allow them to keep their better players.

You have to remember not many people thought those two would do as well as they have. Thats why that draft had many other first round qbs and not those guys.

I agree they shouldn't draft one in the first round. To many question marks with even the first round guys. It really is very similar to the draft that Newton, Dalton, and all them came out in. I was just commenting on the fact that you said there is no QB's in the draft that are on the level of Kaepernick or Wilson. If people knew they would turn out that way, they would have been top 10 picks.

I think they're really similar. Dalton would be traded in my dream scenario and the only real reason is salary in 2015 and beyond. Dalton is a fine player that will never be great. I like your idea of getting one of the guys you mentioned if they keep Dalton. They should not keep Dalton and draft a Bridgewater/Carr tonight.
